40 and overs - how long did it take you to conceive?

Just that really. Can I ask how long it took you to conceive when actively trying? I've just turned 40 and have two gorgeous boys and am trying to work out whether to go for a third. Thanks in advance x

Op, I had not been intimate in months, had sex once on our anniversary and voila pregnant. I was 41 just about to turn 42. I am due in 2 weeks. Good luck and hopefully it works out how you want.

I was 39 when I had DC1 - she took 8 months to conceive. I'm now 41 and currently 30 weeks pregnant with DC2 - this one happened in the 1st month of trying..... Good luck

First pregnancy, started TTC in January, pregnant by March. Sadly, that ended in MMC in May. I was pregnant again in July and am now 29 weeks.
So not long!

Forgot to say - I turned 41 in July, DH is 42

First baby, conceived at 41 born when I was 42, exactly 1 year of trying.

Second baby, conceived at 42, born when I was 43, 1st month.

Conceived three times at 39, 40, 42. Only the middle one resulted in a baby, but conceived first go each time. I was tracking ovulation.

Funny really, I ttc for three years in my early thirties with an ex and nothing, nada, zilch.

I started trying (for the first time ever) at 41 and it took 4/5 months from the time I stopped taking the pill. My baby is due around my 42nd birthday.

I noticed a couple of 40somethings above found it quicker the second time so that has really cheered me up! :)

Having said that, I do know women whose fertility seemed to cut off around 38-39 and they didn't manage to have a second child, so I'd say to start as soon as possible, especially if you had your current children in your mid 30s or before.

5.5 years (3 years on our own, 2.5 years on fertility treatments). Expecting my first one now at 40.

I have been pregnant 5 times, the last two at 40 and 43. All were conceived on the 2nd month of trying.

Thanks so much everyone that's really helpful. My first baby was IVF after several years of trying at almost 37 but we had a surprise natural second 22 months later when I was a few months from 39. Just turned 40 and wondering how long to try before we perhaps turn to fertility treatment again. Love hearing such positive outcomes - thank you all. X

Golden My midwife has a mum to be aged 50 with a natural conception and my hospital consultant has lots of women in their mid to late 40's who thought they were too old so didn't bother with contraception and ended up with surprises!

It took us 7 months to conceive our first. I have just turned 40 and due in 3 weeks. I was amazed at how quickly it happened as I thought it might not happen at all. Those 7 months felt a lot longer at the time though waiting every month became a bit of an obsession for me but looking back we were very lucky it happened so soon.
