Hello , can you recommend any good books to read about pregnancy and newborns? Ideally with a bit of fun , I have one " what to expect..." and there are also lots of apps I know, but maybe some books you particularly liked?

Expecting better - Emily Oster

It's about pregnancy guidelines for what women should and should not do during pregnancy and I found it really helpful when I was expecting DC1 - it basically gives more info about the guidelines, why they are so strict and whether they need to be. Definitely made me feel more relaxed.

Your baby - week by week - Caroline Fertleman

This was really useful when DC turned up - week by week things to look for and little milestones in short chapters that you can read and remember even when you are sleep deprived! There is a bit in it about Controlled Crying that got a few attachment parents worked up (you can see in the Amazon reviews) but overall, whether you agree with CC or not, it is a really helpful book.

Kaz Cooke - Rough Guide to Pregnancy and Birth

also has early days information - a weekly blog which I found really funny and a ruler measuring guide for each week :)

Expecting Better and Bumpology were the two best ones I read.

Having read both of them before doing ante natal classes I can say the cover everything (and more) that you'll need to know about pregnancy, birth etc.

I liked expecting better and found it helpful from the early stages of my pregnancy.

If you're planning to breastfeed, I'd also recommend Food of Love which has a lot of useful information including drawings of how the child should look from the mother's viewpoint which I found helpful.

Thank you everyone I will go check them out) it's so much information on the web it's sometimes hard to find and filter it!

Second the week by week book. Found it invaluable in the early weeks.
Written with both parents in mind - my dh enjoyed reading it and telling me what we should be doing!

I've only partially read it so far but I also really like Week by Week so far. A friend of a friend recommended it and so far its very practical

"Bump" by Kate Evans. Excellent, informative and witty book about pregnancy. She also wrote "Food of Love" (about breastfeeding) which a PP mentioned.

I have "Expecting Better" and it was quite useful when TTC and in the early stages of pregnancy, when I wanted to understand the research about alcohol and other things to avoid, but I wouldn't say it's a comprehensive guide to pregnancy and birth in the way that some of the other books are.

I also bought "Pregnancy for Men" for DH and both of us enjoyed reading it!
