Retained placenta... midwife said will probably happen again.

I'm only 10 weeks, we had been trying for over 6 months so we are obviously very happy and so is my mother, she has told everyone!
I have a two year old DS, and after birth I had a retained placenta. Had a woman trying to pull it out after I'd just given birth for 20 minutes with no pain relief.. was worse than the actual birth. So I got taken down to theatre, had a spinal tap and was out 20 minutes later and back on the ward. But it was so scary, and humiliating that I'm terrified it will happen again. My midwife said I will probably have another retained placenta with this baby too. And I'm bricking it, does anyone have any experience with this?

I had a retained placenta with my first, second and third was fine.
Midwives with subsequent pregnancies didn't seem concerned about the history, no mention of consultant, only extra steps were strongly recommended the injection ( which I was of course happy to have to try to avoid a repeat, even though I had it first time), and I had to get out of the pool... Dc2&3 were born in the water, but midwife wanted me out of pool for placenta due to history. By then I was ready to get out anyway.

Try not to focus on what she said, you will probably be ok, but whatever happens when the time comes please try not to worry about it.

I had a retained placenta with DD1, she was 10lbs 4 & they told me big baby, big placenta and my cervix had clamped shut on it before it had fully come out. They took me down to theatre and tried to do a spinal block, but failed, so removed the placenta under a general anathestic. With DD2, the placenta came out normally ( which meant I saw one for the first time - eww)

I'm not gonna worry till it gets closer, I have months yet (assuming everything goes well until then) I'll have to have a long chat with my midwife about this.. I suppose I can't do anything to prevent it happening again! I didn't realise how common it was, I sort of felt guilty after it! And the midwives were acting all disappointed.

i remember i was on a drip after birth for some medicine aimed at stopping the PPH happening again with dc2 - ask for your notes to be reviewed by a consultant and a meeting to discuss it so you can be confident they've got clear plans in place if it does happen again. I found that very reassuring, felt that they understood and were tooled up if anything happened.

Just had my letter for my scan. It's the 26th so I'll be seeing my consultant then I think, I'm gonna write loads of questions down for him/her!
