Colostrum at 30 weeks?

Just out of the shower and for the second time have had a drop from each nipples, thick and yellow in colour. Presumably this is totally normal?

I think it is. I've had it for a couple of weeks now. Really happy as I didn't get it with dd and couldn't breastfeed as I had lactation failure. I'm hoping that this time it means my boobs my work!

Mine started at 15 weeks last time! Am 16 weeks now and wondering where it is this time lol

Oh good, I thought it was- was slightly concerned that it was so yellow but Google tells me that's normal! How many weeks are you?

I'm 38+2 now. I've had it from about 34 I think x

I've had it from about 26 weeks. Only had one major leak so far where there was probably about a teaspoon worth rather than a small nipple sized wet patch.

Yes, it is - I had to wear pads with DS1 from about 26 weeks. Unfortunately one came adrift during work one day, which I didn't notice until a colleague pointed out that it was making a break for freedom out of the top of my dress. 😳

I've never had it when pregnant but yes, it is really really yellow!

Thanks Pottering, good to have it confirmed- if you didn't know it would be easy to interpret it as a sign of infection as it's so yellow!

If you can, ask your midwife for some syringes and start saving it for when baby is born in case you have any feeding issues. My DS wouldn't latch at first (traumatic birth) and the frozen colostrum I had was great over the first day or so.

You can massage your breasts and collect the colostrum in a clean shot glass and then suck up into syringe, label with your name and collection date and keep in the freezer until needed.

I had this at about 25 weeks but it was a clear liquid. Never had it yellow.

Is it safe to harvest colostrum this early?

I think I started doing it around 36-37 weeks. But breast milk can be safety frozen for up to six months so you can get yourself more if you start now. It takes an age to get 5ml to fill a syringe.
