Quick question on booking in an elective C-Section

Can anyone tell me when exactly before their due date they 'booked in' the elective C-Section? i.e. the appointment where you formally 'request' the C-Section with an obstetrician (not a midwife) and they discuss it with you and assess why you want/need it etc. then agree a date?

I don't have an appt. with the Obstetrician till 25th Jan and am due on 27th Feb. Feel like it's leaving it all a bit late to start the process but I may be wrong? What did everyone else find, and was it a straightforward process for you? Asking as am dreading the entire process tbh - had a traumatic first labour with DD and not looking forward to having to 'prove' my anxiety as it were...

Thanks!

Have you discussed what happens if baby comes before the booked c section date e.g will it be an emergency c section, if it's maternal request rather than medical emergency you could be quite far down the priority list would they transfer you to another hospital etc etc

I'm having this problem. Don't seem to be able to see a consultant at all, (has never come up that I would meet with a dr) and the consultant midwife is proving v hard to pin down to a follow up appointment after she didn't have my notes at the first vbac app with her. I'm 31 weeks and want to have it sorted, it's not helping my birth anxiety at all! Glad you're all sorted op.

Really glad to hear that!! Well done, it must be a relief to have that at least out of the way and decided.

I've got my mental health team appt. on Monday. Apparently it's the one where they check you are of sound mind and fully understand all of the risks of c-section (and definitely cannot be talked into a vbac by one quick CBT session - ha ha) THEN I see the Obs. on 25th Jan... still seems like miles off but what can you do?

Just brilliant to hear it's gone well for you, hope all else goes smoothly!

2014Newme - yes I have raised this with the midwife. I do understand it wouldn't be priority as such, and she's emphasised they would only 'go with the flow' of what's happening on the day (i.e. Reasons why it might be premature etc). She didn't suggest making a birth plan, which with hindsight, seems to me like a blindingly obvious tool to help. I've decided to write one that explains briefly the context (traumatic birth, lots of simple things went v wrong, no pain relief and I have a chronic pain condition meaning I experience pain more acutely... etc) and then get my husband to wave it around until hopefully someone takes note. I realise none of this guarantees an unbooked section, but sure it will help. I'm now seeing a counsellor privately, who also suggested taking along an 'official' letter from my GP outlining her view from the medical perspective. My GP is very supportive. On that note Wineapotomys, I'd highly recommend getting a separate referral to see a consultant from your GP directly rather than going via midwives if they are proving slow. My GP has also said that if the consultant were to veto my c-section request, they would refer me elsewhere (v unlikely to happen but reassuring to know).

Thanks pickling, that's very interesting to hear. I may well do that if she isn't more helpful when I ring (for the millionth time!) on Monday.
