Vomiting in labour

Hi everyone.

I have emetaphobia (a fear of being sick) and I have heard that lots of women vomit during labour. This absolutely petrifies me, and I more scared about thia than the pain of labour. I was just wondering how many of you have/have not been sick during labour.

Thanks in advance x

Just wanted to update you. I gave birth 4 days ago and was so scared like you, to the point I begged for anti sickness meds. In the end I was sick whilst I was pushing but I genuinely didn't care at that point, I was actually quite proud of myself. It will be ok and your baby will be worth it.

I would explain and ask for some anti-sickness meds. X

I vomited in my first two labours: the first time was after I was given codeine for the pain of my contractions (?! About as much use as a fart in a hurricane, I would say), and with my second I rocked up on the labour ward demanding gas and air as I was in the throes of contractions coming on top of each other, and was promptly very sick in the hallway. Poor midwives. That was a very fast labour: I went from 4cm to fully dilated within about fifteen minutes, and poor baby was out with only two pushes. He actually had small conjunctival and skin haemorrhages from his precipitate arrival! I think it was the intensity and speed that made my body react like that. And the codeine with the first.

I do remember I wasn't nauseous for more than a couple of seconds. And with my third labour I had no nausea.

I was sick every day of my last pregnancy from 5 weeks right up to 41weeks. And I wasn't sick in labour. I didnt have any pain relief though but I have heard that sometimes diamorphine, pethidine and gas and air can make people feel nauseous or be sick.
