Sudden absolute exhaustion at 24/25 weeks.....is this normal???

Over the last week I've suddenly found that I keep being unbelievably tired. Now I expect this on the days when I've worked the night before and haven't slept for over 24hrs.....but take today for instance. I last worked Thursday night - go a really good nights sleep on Friday night, and a good night last night. Didn't get up until 9am this morning. All I did this morning was sat at the organ and played at church.

At 1.30 I was making myself a toasted sandwich in the kitchen and just felt shattered - I covered the sandwich up in clingfilm, told DH I needed to rest - sat down in the recliner chair in the lounge and slept for 2hrs solid - when I woke up I could easily have gone back to sleep quite happily - but had to get up and cook dinner and play for another service at church.

There's been other occasions in the alst week or so when I've just been completely whitewashed - without any real reason for being so too.

Is this normal - I remember getting tired with both DS's pgs in the 1st trimester - and again near the end - but never anything like this - especially not in the middle.....

Same here. I'm 22 weeks and have been feeling very tired for at least 3 weeks. I noticed that my bump has been growing A LOT during that time so that could explain that! I just think it's a growth spurt. If your iron levels are fine I wouldn't worry.

fannyannie · 18/02/2007 22:15

well I don't know if my iron levels are fine - had bloods taken at 12 weeks - and they were ok then - but not due to have more taken for another 3/4 weeks....

I just know that I never had anything like this sort of sudden exhaustion with either of my 1st 2 pgs.....

Hi

Twice this week I have slept for 2 hours, am 25+, I had been feeling great but this week have been shattered

Frenchsmallfry · 19/02/2007 08:34

It will almost certainly be your iron levels. I am 27+ weeks and last mth my iron levels were normal and I felt great. The last 2 weeks I heve felt increasingly more tired. I had a blood test at the beginning of last week and by the end of the week I had a letter and perscription from my M/W for Iron tablets. Personally I won't take the tblets as they make me constipated, I will increase my Iron levels by half a guinnes every few days and Iron rich foods. I remember the same thing happening when I was pg with dd 18mths ago.

You should go to your gp and request for a blood test, if you get your iron levels up it will make such a difference, you'll feel human again.

thanks frenchs - I'm seeing my mw this afternoon so I'll mention it to her then - I went to bed at 10.30pm last night - and got up at 8 - and I'm still shattered.......

Fannyannie - I'm the same. 25weeks and suddenly I need 10 hours at least every night. I was ill with a bad cold last week so was putting my exhaustion down to that, however I look really pale too, so I think it might be my iron levels. I was at the mw last week and am getting my bloods done this week, so will know more then.

Keep us posted what your mw says!

fannyannie · 19/02/2007 10:18

I think I could cope if it was only 8/9/10 hours sleep a night I need - but I just want to sleep constantly atm !

How did you get on with the midwife fannieanne?

Frenchsmallfry · 19/02/2007 16:03

If you are not asleep now or slept through the appointment?

Mumpbump · 19/02/2007 16:12

I reckon it's probably normal. I remember being exhausted in the first trimester with ds, bouncing around full of energy in the second and then being exhausted again in the third... You're just heading into the third trimester, aren't you?

ProfYaffle · 19/02/2007 16:26

I got anaemic around this stage and was hit by exhaustion, started feeling better as soon as I started taking Floradix and/or Spatone. They're both natural supplements, can't do any harm to try them.

fannyannie · 19/02/2007 17:50

Appointment went ok - she's given me the forms to get my bloods done - blood pressure was ok 100/60. Heard the heartbeat again (as did the boys and DS1 is thrilled at hearing it ). Was just reminded to eat and drink at regular intervals which should hopefully help stop the dizziness too.

So pleased you got to hear a heartbeat... It must be so comforting!

Mumpbump · 20/02/2007 12:09

Sorry - overlooked momentarily the fact you're 24/25 weeks - brain not in gear due to still being in the early stages of pg... Anyway, still pleased that your appointment went well.

For the tiredness, if it is iron-related, dried apricots are a really good source of iron as well as being something you can snack on during the day and helping prevent constipation...

Juicylucytoo · 20/02/2007 12:27

But they taste pants mumpbump! I have had a big bag of them on my desk for weeks and can't bring myself to eat them

Mumpbump · 20/02/2007 12:37

Have you tried the unsulphured ones that are brownish in colour - completely different taste!

Frenchsmallfry · 20/02/2007 17:01

Hey, JL send them this way, I love dried apricots, didn't know they were a good source of iron. Don't think I can get them here.

Juicylucytoo · 20/02/2007 18:39

FSF - you're on. Send me your address.

If you can't CAT me, I'll post my email address on the May board.

ChicPea · 20/02/2007 18:46

Fannieannie, sympathies. I am 25wks preg with twins and mid afternoon I am shattered and just have to sleep for an hour or two. I can't do this everyday as I work but when I am not working or it's the weekend I can do so. Fefol iron supplements are fantastic as they don't cause constipation.
