Maternity pads or just big sanitary towels

I'm starting to pack my hospital bag, only 30w but have had a few complications so I want to be ready to go really.

I have far too much stuff I need to get (all my bits, baby is sorted of course) and on this is big/disposable pants and maternity pads.

So my question is, do I go for disposable pants or just nip into primark and get some cheapo ones?

And is it definitely maternity pads or would heavy flow night time always do???

Also, everything I read online says I need 'loads'... are we talking a pack? 2 packs? 4 packs?

I have GD so I'll be in hospital for a couple of days after the birth.

Mum if the postage is lots / op doesn't want, food bank might take them? Or gumtree. X

BertieBotts · 18/12/2016 11:02

Mum2Bomg if OP does not want them I expect you could donate them to your hospital or a women's refuge?

I just got the primark full briefs in black. And maternity pads at first, you'll need them as they are nice and soft. I didn't bleed much though so only needed them for about a week, then switched to normal always pads.

Maternity towels and normal pants.

Get way more as is better to change them
Very regularly to prevent infection. I think changing 10 times a day is expected first week, not nessecary due to leaking but just so in the day it's clean every 2 hours of so.

Mum2 where did you get those? I am looking for some too but struggling to find any that look like they'd be any good!

mum2Bomg · 18/12/2016 11:46

Thanks for the ideas - it's a shame to bin them. I got them from Amazon Notalotta.

mum2Bomg · 18/12/2016 11:52

If anyone would like them then you can have them...

Artandco · 18/12/2016 12:06

Also, remember hot water sets stains. Any clothing that gets dirty can actually be washed out very easily. Just put anything in machine on cold wash first, then regular wash.

I find maternity towels quite narrow tbh, I like the Kotex night time ones

Jodie1982 · 18/12/2016 12:55

If nobody else wants them mum2Bomg ill appreciate them. Being induced on 9th Jan.

Maternity pads, and if you can nab a extra few from the hospital do that. For some reason the hospital pads were loads better than the ones I got in boots!

BeaveredBadgered · 18/12/2016 15:35

I much preferred the thin maternity pads (boots ones with wings) and wore pants two sizes bigger than normal.

kmini · 18/12/2016 17:37

I found nighttime pads better as they have wings. Much greater protection

sickofTeletubbies · 18/12/2016 18:42

Maternity pads. 2 side by side. Make sure you take more than you think you need to avoid DP rushing out to get more. Took 3 packets in with me and used 4 in total. Don't rely on the hospital pads as they were totally not up to the job. Good luck!

sickofTeletubbies · 18/12/2016 18:43

Also, you'll need them if your waters break.

Lunalovepud · 18/12/2016 22:30

Big maxi pads - the bigger the better. Also I agree with pps about massive black pants but also recommend you get some mesh pants... I had a section and knicker elastic made my incision sore... Mesh pants were much comfier - I was in them for a few weeks and feel quite sentimental about them now, although they are hideous.

Popskipiekin · 18/12/2016 22:48

Tena lady is the way forward in my experience! I had heavy heavy bleeding with DC1, my mum got me these on pharmacist recommendation - I even bulked them up with maternity pads for first couple of days. They're lovely and comfy, very secure, no worries about bleeding over the sides which I had with just wearing normal pants and pads. I'm now 2 days pp with DC2 and though bleeding is lighter I'm still using Tena lady as I love them so much! Grin Midwife actually said she thought they were much the best thing.

Stay away from anything remotely lacy as if you need a section they get caught on the stitches...ouch!
