eeek! i did this when i was pregnant, well, i fell and did the splits, didn;t have SPD though

you could get crutches, and maybe some physio, i would go to docs or call midwife, they might be able to help you xx also, there is a support bandages you can get, in the meantime, try wrapping some wide and long fabric around your hips, under your bump, to hold things together

you might be in shock too..have a hot sweet drink and maybe call NHS direct

poor you xxx you are not having the best time, are you x

trace2 · 18/02/2007 19:10

Oh poor you. Sounds really painful. Def. have a sit down (well find the most comfortable position) and have a rest.

Do you already have a physio? (sounds like you do from your OP). I would definately give them a call first thing to arrange an emergency appt, even if it is for crutches and some mega tubigrip, I'm sure a womens health physio will squeeze you in for a quick appointment and then probably book you in for a longer full assessment when they have a free appointment slot.

Flumpytina · 18/02/2007 19:12

sorry xpost. I'd still give your physio a call in the morning...they have other things they can try and certainly lots of advice re pain relief.

trace2 · 18/02/2007 19:12

yes i already have physio, she told me i can ring any time, but dont know what else they can do

bless you trace.....

the thing is, you will be in pain and uncomfortable and the baby is jsut fine in there ! can you get in the bath?

i think you should really take it easy, after i fell, i was signed off work for a week and was told to really take care..you should too....a bad fall is even worse when you are pregnant

a) because you automatically think the baby will come to some harm

b) your pelvis and all the joints and ligaments are all looser, so you can really hurt yourself more

c) you cannot take decent pain killers !

i take it baby is moving a normal amount, no fluid or blood loss?

singyswife · 18/02/2007 19:13

Hi, I had spd with dd2 and I found that Baths really helped. Especially at the end. Getting in the bath was a nightmare and DH had to help me out but it was sooooo worth it. I was having 4 and 5 baths a day for the pain. I would contact nhs direct tonight as they may at least be able to give you a stronger painkiller than good old paracetamol (which I found was like taking smarties). Really feel for you. Take care x

Flumpytina · 18/02/2007 19:15

The last but one physio department I worked in had the most amazing womens health team who were really into manual therapy for spd.
At the very least they should re-assess you and go thro' with you again all the advice, do's don'ts etc.

trace2 · 18/02/2007 19:16

yes shes moving fine and no blood or fluid loss its just me thank god! last time with ds i was on codine but he and i was addicted when he was born he never stopped screaming for weeks so i am really trying not to take this time...

do you think they may send me to a pain clinc?

poor you - no advice or experioence to share but wantesd to say that I hope you get some rest and feel better soon.

Flumpytina · 18/02/2007 19:19

re getting in/out of the bath, ask your physio to organise getting a bath board for you (from the occupational therapists). This is basically a sophisticated plank that goes across the bath. You sit on it and swing your legs into the bath with knees together (a la getting in/out of the car) and then lower yourself into the water. Using one should avoid separating your legs or pivoting on one leg.

trace2 · 18/02/2007 19:19

ive had a lecture of dh for not using my cruchers, and i want to stay mobile as much as possible as i may have 17 weeks yet to go

OP posts:
Flumpytina · 18/02/2007 19:23

Oh yes lectures from husbands can be so very helpful can't they . Refrain from sticking one of your crutches into one of his orofices!!

trace2 · 18/02/2007 19:26

Flumpytina lol i may try that

OP posts:
lulumama · 18/02/2007 19:27

LOL at flumpy..worth getting checked again as there may be more that can be done for you

Flumpytina · 18/02/2007 19:28

Oh no, your physio will be checking your crutches when you return them...it would not be nice for her to find something on the end of one that shouldn't be there!!!

trace2 · 18/02/2007 19:29

phoned nhs direct, have to wait for doctor to ring back , ill let you know when he or she does

Oh trace. You have had such a time of it- and I know how desperately you wanted to be pregnant, it's so hard to try and enjoy it when you're in this much pain.

I'm off to see an obstetric physio this week- not got SPD but this pregnancy has triggered a back condition and I can't spend any more time in the bath trying to get comfortable. Fell and landed on a boat mooring last week (on my back), had to crawl back to my house and the ensuing hobbling is driving me mad. I'm hoping all of these wonderful things I have heard about pregnancy physio are true.

Just wanted to let you know I sympathise and it can't last forever. We'll get there and even have little babies to hold at the end of it.

Take care, get thee back to the physio and try and take care- I know it's a pita having to go everywhere on crutches but look after yourself.

tribpot · 18/02/2007 19:53

Gosh, you poor thing. If only you were a guest star on Strictly Come Dancing, you could put the splits to good use at least

Hope NHS Direct will pull their fingers out and have something useful to say - I'm not sure how the pain team will be able to help you as obviously you don't want to take painkillers, and some complementary therapies like TENS are out for you too (I think? Not before 38 weeks or have I forgotten the rules?). I'm sure hypnotherapy would be good for you if nothing else.

It's not that you can't have an x-ray, btw, simply that one should be avoided without a damn good reason. If you've done yourself a serious injury, you can't just put up with it for 17 weeks.

trace2 · 18/02/2007 19:55

soh so sorry about your back pg is never easy is it? hope all goes well at physio .

nhs called back asked lots of question, about baby told her every think ok there! then said i either go to a&e or go to bed with a waem not hot water bottle to try and rest and ring gp in morning, she then said gp might send me to hospital anyway to be sure.

thank you that answerd me all i seen to do at the moment is moan

Juicylucytoo · 18/02/2007 20:10

Flippin' eck Trace, you aren't half being put through it.
How about a warm bath?? Might help. Bed with waterbottle also sounds like a good option. Hope you can get a good nights rest. You will probably be stiff in the morning, but hope the GP can offer some advise / help. Can you ring your physio in the morning too?
