Castor oil to induce labour at 39+4?

I've read numerous threads and researched thouroughly into the pros/cons of using castor oil to induce labour. I have had a truly horrendous pregnancy and I wouldn't consider this method until after my due date but it does seem to be the only method that seems to genuinely work for people to bring on labour. I undestand there are side effects such as the nausea and trips to the toilet, but from what I have read it does not enter the placenta and therefore does not heighten the risk of meconium. Can anybody tell me your experiences of castor oil? Thank you

Please don't try it OP. Funny you should say that cmere. I live in Germany and know of a lady over here who took castor oil when overdue with her 4th. She had terrible stomach cramps and diarrhea (sp?), ran to the toilet to find the baby crowning and delivered the baby on her own on the bathroom floor.

When I was overdue with DD1 my (German) midwife suggested the safer alternative - an enema from the chemist. It didn't work. If your baby isn't ready to come out then none of these things will make a difference in my opinion. If they are on their way anyway it might give them a bit of a nudge.

The only safe thing with any scientific backing is sex as sperm contains prostaglandins.

My mother was given this by the midwife 50 years ago. Apparently it made her ill and the midwife had a lot of laundry to do.

Personally, a little light nesting and yoga breathing was enough for me. But I was completely flaked out and could not have managed the walks, or the bouncing on balls etc and couldn't even stay awake a lot of the day. I think they come when the balance of when they are ready, and what your body can do is reached (apart from the really stubborn ones).

Just to let you know, I was desperate to go into labour naturally with my third child as I wanted a vba2c. I tried Everything!!!! As a last ditch attempt, someone recommended acupuncture so I gave it a go. Whilst the needles were inserted I could feel my womb contracting and afterwards had mild period pains. I did go into labour naturally. I would recommend this method but I must add that I was already a week over due.
