What are all you lovely pregnant ladies drinking this Christmas

Hi all,

I'm going to seriously miss my bubbles this Christmas, it's the one time a year I splash out on nice champers.

So I've been on the hunt for a replacement but everything is so sweet!

What is everyone filling their flutes with this Christmas?

Well last Christmas when pregnant, honestly I had a glass of champagne. It was wonderful. But I can understand that you'd like to not, so how about elderflower cordial with sparkling water?

This! It's definitely available - I got some in shop on Sunday. There's about 5 different ones in the range and they're delightful.

Sainsbury's do an alcohol free prosecco. It's about £2.50 a bottle and can be found with the fizz (usually bottom shelf in my local). It is still sweeter than I would choose for fizz but doesn't taste like pop like most other alternatives do. Highly recommend. I'm also quite partial to a Becks Blue and I intend to make some sort of mocktails over the Xmas period, maybe a mulled apple juice. I will be enjoying a very small glass of red on Xmas day tho.

I have gestational diabetes so just sparkling water for me Sad

I added chunks of apple and a cinnamon stick and left it to infuse in the fridge for a few hours before a Christmas party the other day and it was actually really tasty!

DD ,the pregnant person in our house, is having shloer Christmas day an is having a mocktail kit, cranberry juice, lemonade, ginger beer etc so she can maker her own drinks

starsinyourpies · 08/12/2016 21:06

Champagne Blush just a little. Otherwise Schloer.

MrsGsnow18 · 08/12/2016 21:10

I'I not a fan of the really sweet sparkling drinks either so will avoid shloer. I usually like Gin and Tonic so thought I might just have some nice tonic by itself. I quite like the ones with a hint of lime.

MrsGsnow18 · 08/12/2016 21:12

Sad I just googled though and it's not safe to drink tonic water.

SquedgieBeckenheim · 08/12/2016 21:17

Elderflower cordial with sparkling water, and alcohol free koppaberg.
There will be port in the turkey gravy, brandy in the cake and rum in the truffles so feel I'm already risking the alcohol levels!

Eminybob · 08/12/2016 21:17

Hugh I've been looking at Carl Jung wines on line, is there any where in real life I can buy them?

Whatsername17 · 08/12/2016 21:26

Wine! Just kidding Grin though I may have a weak spritzer with lemonade on Christmas day. The rest of the time I'll drink whatever caffeine free software drinks are on offer. I'll be 36 weeks so unlikely to be bothered about a real drink anyway!

reindeerbitesback · 08/12/2016 22:01

I'm another one for elderflower cordial and sparkling water or a premixed sparkling elderflower drink. If you're not an elderflower fan, a naice fruit cordial of some kind can feel quite special (especially if served in a champagne flute with sparkling water).

Mocktails are another good call.

My SIL, DSIS and two cousins will be pregnant this year so there will be a lot of choice for the non alcoholic I imagine.

I'm getting married on the 27th so may have a glass or a few sips of champagne on that day, but I doubt it (I'm not that much of a fan as it is!)

starsinyourpies · 08/12/2016 22:16

MrsG what?!? Tonic water not safe?

ConvincingLiar · 08/12/2016 22:17

Tonic not safe??!

starsinyourpies · 08/12/2016 22:20

I think you'd have to drink a hell of a lot of tonic water for it to be a problem if it's the quinine you're worried about.

daisydalrymple · 08/12/2016 22:26

Not pregnant, but still BF, so I've sampled a few different ones now. Asda do a fairly decent rose and white n/a fizz (based on the actual wine grapes) in their extra special range.

I had champagne.

And a lot of fizzy water but I just had champagne to be honest because I didn't drink much of it anyway and it was so nice to join in. It felt hard at the time but now looking back it was such a small compromise for my amazing son Wink

MrsNuckyThompson · 08/12/2016 23:03

Fizzy water with fresh lemon.

And a good few glasses of champagne over the festive period. Rude not to..!
