Hey I am wondering when people heard fro. their midwives? I will be 8 weeks tomorrow but haven't heard anthing yet. My first pregnancy so really dont know what's going on.. Shouldn't I have had my booking appointment by now? I am away for most of week 10/11 so getting a bit nervous! Just a bit worried I am behind where I am supposed to be

Sounds like a silly question but have you called them to make an appointment? I think you (if you want) to have had your first screening tests by 13 weeks, so it would be ideal to see someone by 10/11 so they can get these booked in.

My GP told me that they would be in touch with me as he had sent a referral on. I might give them a call then just to ask. My new surgery isnt very good, so I wouldn't be surprised if they gave me the wrong information... How I wish I was still in Lambeth Sad

Phone your GP surgery and find out what you're supposed to do, different areas have different systems. Here you just phone the receptionist and make an appointment with the midwife when you need to. Usually 8 weeks is a good time to do that.

You can usually calm your midwife direct.... Ask the surgery which centre your midwife works from and give them a call.... The numbers are usually on the web...

How long ago did you see your GP? Most surgeries only have the midwife on site once per week ... So they may not have picked up your details yet if there was even a coupe of days delay between you swing go and them doing the paperwork

In my area once you have been referred at your initial appointment the midwife contacts you to schedule the booking in appointment. Like you I got to 8ish weeks and started to panic thinking I'd been forgotten and was debating whether to call them however at the end of that week I did hear from them and my booking in appointment was scheduled for the following week when I was 9 ish weeks. For what it's worth I had already received my 12 week scan appointment in the post from the hospital before I heard from the community midwives.

Thanks for you replies everyone. I rang them and my booking appointment is next week when I am 9 weeks. Still no date for my scan but hoping that will be sorted next week. Not terribly impressed with my area so far!

Also, you can self refer to most of the hospitals in London, which is what I did. I hadn't decided between 2 hospitals at the time of my 6 week appt with GP so just called the hospital I eventually chose and filled out their forms.

I remember having a booking appt around 10-11 weeks - but if you're away I'd call them to get a move on. In general the London trusts are super busy and don't seem to have that much flexibility to reschedule appointments around travel etc - unless you let them know well in advance.

Bisquick · 08/12/2016 17:39

Oh x post OP. Which area is it (PM if you'd like?). I'm at UCH and was seriously underwhelmed early on - but it gets much better as time goes by. And they often book in scans only after the first booking appt is done!

MabelTheCow · 08/12/2016 19:19

My midwife referred me to the hospital for the scan after my booking appointment and they sent that through in writing. Felt rather frustrating at the time but all good once it was came through.

Mine apparently sent me a letter about an appointment at 9 weeks. I didn't receive it so I rang up the GP to check and they told me when it was. Ring your GP in case the same has happened to you!

Hollyhop17 · 08/12/2016 19:23

Its Croydon. We used to live in Lambeth and I very much wish we still did. I think it just feels a little frustrating as it is my first so I thought there would be more information etc. Hoping I know more next week when I have it. So anxious for that 12 week scan. It is so hard not telling people over Chrismas!

I found the first part hard to navigate but found it better once I was in the system so to speak.

As others have said different areas have different procedures so it is hard to know what to do.

Hope all goes well!
