Slapped cheek and pregnancy - freaking out!

I'm 13 weeks pregnant after 4 mc's over last 18 months. Already quite anxious about this pregnancy, and just discovered DS's best friend at school has possible slapped cheek. So now I'm on anxiety overdrive.

My son actually had a fever last wknd but it disappeared overnight and I thought nothing more of it. I then felt quite rough wknd just gone and had a painful throat, also came up in a random isolated rash on the inside of my elbow(?) Hmm and again thought nothing of it. But then I heard about DS's bf and now I'm freaking out. And coincidentally, my cheeks also seem very red, dry and blotchy but I had originally put this down to the cold weather.

I'm going to call midwife in the morning for advice, but does anyone know if it's possible to have mild symptoms for slapped cheek, I.e. Have it without actually knowing you've had it (possibly what's happened to DS/myself) or is it like chicken pox, where there is little-no doubt u have it! In which case I might be able to sleep tonight before I can speak to midwife!

And also, if we haven't had it, is there anything I can do to avoid it other than wrapping myself up in cotton wool?? Sad

I've heard some horror stories about slapped cheek and pregnancy, and I really feel quite worried. Any advice/reassurance wld be really helpful!! Thank you xx

Hello!!! I had this when I was pregnant 4 years ago and I was too was in my second trimester which is the worst time to catch it! Basically I was baby sitting a poorly child to
Later find out they had slapped cheek so I went to see my GP who was no help at all so I went to see the nurse and she took some blood to see if I was immune or not! I was not!!! So my midwife told me I would have blood tests every 4 weeks to see if I had caught the infection, at 15-16wks I caught it! I didn't really know I had but to be honest I did t feel too poorly but my blood showed I had it so she told me I was having a scan at fetal medicine the very next day! She told me not to worry it's unlikely I would pass this onto my baby... I get my scan and what do you know! My baby is very poorly in there! I was told to expect a miscarriage and they needed to give him a blood transfusion but the veins were just too small
At this stage. I was scanned every 48 hours and my baby began to get better, he was suffering from fetal anemia. He got better and I was then told to watch out for hydrops which is when fluid builds up inside the baby! So I was scanned until 28 weeks when I was given the all clear!! He's a thriving 3 year old now.
So ASAP speak to your midwife or GP and get a blood test to check for immunity
