Really looking to hear other people's experiences.
Recently found out I'm pregnant with dc3, still nursing dc2 who is 15months. We're still in shock because although we were planning to try for a third I really didn't think it would happen whilst I was still BF. (Because I had to wean dc 1 at age 2 to get pregnant with dc2)

So now I'm in a bit of a flap, im mostly worries about dc2 missing out on her milk before she's really ready to stop.

So any tips to get through it? To keep my milk supply up? Do I need extra calcium?

Also tandem ing. I hadn't even considered the possibility until now.

Thank you in advance for any wisdom you offer xx

Kellymom has some useful info.

I think ultimately though it depends on how your body reacts. I stopped producing milk at 13 weeks. Around 26 weeks started getting colostrum. My ds has carried on bf regardless but I hear some dislike the taste, so stop. Mw was shocked when I said it hadn't changed my ds' habits.

If it was me I'd just react to what dc wanted, but then I'm a baby wearer, so I would say that Grin

Yeah, DD and I just carried on merrily feeding throughout pregnancy and neither of us seemed to notice any difference. After DS was born I tandem feed for a year and only change i I noticed was that I lost a lot of weight, but I had it to lose so that was ok.

Tandem feeding itself was lovely for the most part - they used to lie on either side of me and hold hands across my heart, and DD didn't experience sibling jealosy till much later (when he was old enough to demand attention more than milk, basically) - but I find it hard towards the end. DD wanted to feed every time DS did, which left me very touched out.

So, eat well, and try and claw back as much me-time as you can!

Hi OP

I was still taking pregnacare I think.
But my milk dried up in the third trimester.
It did start to hurt so was a relief tbh.
DD was same age as yours and had cows milk.
Then DS was born and she started bf again.
There was enough for both BUT bf them at the SAME time hurt and made me feel nauseous/all touched out. So eventually I just took to feeding them separately until DD gave up of her own accord, around 3.
It did mean you end up bf for nearly five/six years in a row though: usual applies: oatmeal, fluids, fenugreek, breastfeeding tea etc

Good luck Shamrock and congrats Xx

Thank you so much for these replies. I'm so worried about it all.
I've got pregacare and will carry on fingers crossed it goes well. I'll be so sad if my milk dried up soon. I'm going to enjoy every feed for now
Starting to feel better knowing it's worked out for other people x

I am 31 wks pregnant and feeding ds 16months just once a day now. I don't really want to tandem feed. I was going to just stop when he stopped but then fell pregnant.

A few weeks ago he went from waking once a night for a feed to wanting to be latched on all bloody night and I started to really dislike it. I was struggling to not push him away. Sad then he slept through til 5 am with no feed one night and I decided that was where night feeds would end. He was clearly ready for it as there has been no real protest, I did feed him overnight when he was ill though. But went back not feeding once he was better. He's not bf in the day for ages so we are left with the wake up feed. I do feel sad about stopping altogether, but wonder if he would want to increase feeds when my milk comes in with the new baby?

We are the opposite, we night weaned a while ago (without protest so I also assumed she was ready) but feeds a lot in the day

I went back to work when he was 9 months, 3 full days on the trot. He would never take a bottle, or milk from a cup, so went without those days. I think that's why the day feeds stopped. I carried on at night as it was the easiest way to sleep!
