2nd pregnancy booking appointment

I've arranged my booking in appointment for a time when my 2yo will be there (because there are few alternatives and those 2 hours he's at playgroup are MINE!). I've suddenly remembered how long my first one was though, is this wise? Is it quicker when they've seen you before or would that be far too logical?

I doubt it would be quicker. They still have to ask all the questions and still have to fill out a new set of notes.

It won't be any quicker as they will ask you about previous pregnancies and labours etc.... And any medical history you may of had between first and second pregnancy.

I had my two year old there for my booking appointment- she wasn't too bad as I kept her occupied with chocolate buttons and Peppa stickers.

It took the same amount of time. I suppose it depends what your two year old is like whether she should be there or not. My is well behaved but she would still be a distraction. For future information young children are not allowed in scans in my hospital so this maybe an issue if this is what you want to do in the future.

My booking appointment for pg2 and pg3 were quicker than pg1 but my midwife had brought my notes from the previous pregnancies with her so said she could fill in the details I had missed etc. Both my previous pregnancies/deliveries were straight forward so it was only the basic details that needed to be put in the new notes.

It's not quicker, as they have to go through all the same questions again and fill out the handheld notes again. Plus questions about the first pregnancy.

Although my GP surgery give you the blank handheld notes in advance so I could start filling in some of it before the appointment, if they do that in your area that might speed things up for you.

Thanks all :) I'll ask if I can have the form before hand and if not change it, ds is of the 'into everything ' variety!

I took my 2 year old to my appointments and scan. Just remember toys/books to keep them occupied.

Mine was much quicker - all the notes from last pregnancy and birth are on their system so skipped past most questions as same answer as before.

soundsystem · 06/12/2016 21:44

Mine took longer second time round as it was all the same stuff as the first time plus questions on my previous pregnancy and birth. No chance here of them having my old notes or being able to look anything up!

I also have a two-year-old and wouldn't have taken her along as it did take ages and she'd have been bored. I have taken her to scans and she's been fascinated by it (although she does give a running commentary which I worry is distracting for the sonographer).
