Why does my belly get so big by the end of the day?

I am 26 weeks pregnant. In the morning when I wake up, my belly is lovely and compact. It travels well with me.

By bedtime, my belly is huge. It sort of swells during the day. It definitely does not travel well with me.

Does anybody know what causes this and more importantly, does anybody know how to alleviate the symptoms?

used to happen to me, not sure why, probably to do with lack of muscle tone for me !! i don;t think it is a concern, aren;t we also taller when we wake up and then we compact during the day???

just use it as an excuse to lie down a lot

i had this, felt great in the morning and like an elephant banging around in the afternoon.

It happens when your not pg too, but not as noticable.

Garvity??

I had the same btw

I don't know but I had the same during my second trimester. I wondered if it was because of all the food I was eating!

Now I'm in the third trimester my belly is just huge all the time!!

Arrghh, I thought it might be something to do with bloating. But it doesn't seem to make any difference what I eat/how much I eat/when I eat.

I also thought it may be something to do with sitting down all day at my desk i.e. everything gets all squashed. But a walk at lunchtime hasn't relieved it.

All I know is, is that when I come to work in the morning, I can tolerate my bump i.e. I can still see my toes. By the time I go to bed, I am practically elephantine and so very uncomfortable (bump is so tight and I look like I am 40 weeks gone).

I wondered if it may be braxton hicks gone wild. I am not worried that it is a sign that something is wrong - just feeling a bit sorry for myself that I have another 14 weeks to go.

Too many pies?

dejags · 16/02/2007 10:14

I had considered it Norks

tried to eat less but it doesn't really make any difference

Water retention?

Perhaps the babies stretch out more during the day and curl up at night to sleep, like cats! But this theory falls down because most bumps have different sleep patterns to their mothers. And will have for quite some time

Could it be the digestion process? I have some problems with breasts and I have to remove my bra in the evening, not a clue what that could be. It can be quite annoying as it limits your social life (who wants to drag a belly that weighs like a stone?)

Bensonbluebird · 16/02/2007 12:15

Think we all get this. Could be something to do lying down and resting at night then carrying the extra weight around all day.

I've been having braxton hicks too and only just 28wks. Sure I didn't have them this early with my last pregnancy

LupinsBigLump · 16/02/2007 22:13

I am exactly the same am 25+wks at least the mornings are good
