One for anyone who's had a c-section.

I had DD by elective c-section 5 days ago after an EMCS for DS 6 years ago. Healed well from EMCS and scar had become practically invisible.

Am worried about the incision this time. It's not infected, so no worries there, but it is kind of raised and bumpy, especially towards one end. Like a little length of piping. I would post a pic but don't want to gross anyone out!

MW visited today and just shrugged when I asked. She said it might be keloid scarring.

Or is it normal to be raised like this 5 days after a section? Anyone else had this and has it flattened out over the next couple of weeks?

Don't really care what it ends up looking like when healed but am worried about the pain/irritation which may come with it if it's keloid scarring.

Any experiences?

I'm the same as you - one emcs and one elective.

I found the scar got stretched and itchy when I was pregnant with DC2. Second time around it's definitely not as flat and neat as 1st time around and is a bit bumpy. Don't think it's keloid though. It still occasionally gets itchy and dc2 is 20mo.

It's still very early days. It's still healing. Keep it clean and let the air get to it when you can.

Hi,

I had EMCS with my first baby nearly 5 years ago and I was really worried about my scar as it was really raised and bumpy too....like yours though it's pretty much almost disappeared so I would be inclined to think that given time it will do the same for you this time.

anonymice · 30/11/2016 20:24

Mine was like that. Very lumpy and swollen at one end for quite a while. Healed nicely but stayed bumpier at one end for a good six months. DD is one today and the scar is definitely flat now. Midwife reckoned the suturing was not as neat at that end. So it is very early days for you OP and it will settle down a lot I am sure.

Thanks v much. Hope it settles down. Trying to air it lots but makes me feel a bit funny to look at it at the moment.

Try not to worry op, your only five days in. I had exactly the same as you; one EMCS and one elective.

My scar was the same as how yours sounds second time round , it settled down after a bit and hopefully yours will do the same. Like a pp said make sure you keep it clean and air it.

Congratulations by the way Flowers

One elcs here, an inch or two on one end is as you describe, I had a bit of ingrown hair problem there resulting in the skin parting a bit.

It's OK, but seems a bit bumper now I'm pregnant again.

I had an EMCS with my twins 7 months ago and one end was raised and bumpy for a good month or two and then settled down and you can hardly see it now it's hard to spot through the stretch marks

Honeybee79 · 30/11/2016 22:46

Thanks - v reassuring to hear others have had similar and it's settled.

Hi I have had 3 c sections all planned ( no4 will be next march) at the start all my scars were like this but as time went on they healed really well. I do need to mind them even now especially in the summer as i'm a big girl and they can get irritated but I find caldesene powder great.
When I had my 16 week appointment with my consultant on this pregnancy she remarked on how well my scar looked a after 3 sections, hopefully it will look as well after its healed the 4th time

blueshoes · 30/11/2016 23:38

My first cs was an emergency cs. I think I was stitched up hastily. My keloidal scar (tubing) as you described never went down. My second cs was an elective. I asked the surgeon what they could do about the scar - she cut out the scar and took extra care stitching - this time it healed nicely. As another poster said, it could be due to the suturing.

Snozberry · 01/12/2016 14:34

I did end up with a keloid scar and it hasn't caused me any issues other than the odd itch. But at 5 days it still has a while to heal and may well go down.

Honeybee79 · 01/12/2016 14:44

Glad to hear your scar hasn't caused too much of an issue Snozberry. Hopefully mine will go down a bit but if not am not bothered as long as it doesn't cause pain/irritation, e.g. by rubbing against clothing etc.

My keloidal scar did not cause pain or irritation
