Seemed to have developed the world's worst cold today, stuffy bunged up nose, sort throat, earache and cotton wool head. Any advice to help me feel better would be much appreciated - if I wasn't pregnant I'd normally be on the Lemsip and whiskey by now!

lemon, root ginger and honey in hot water. I boil it up a bit on the stove to gt in nice and strong then strain it (you can then reuse the same bits of lemon etc).
Dab a tiny bit of lavender oil on your temples for relaxation and try steaming over a bowl of hot water (stick your head over a large bowl of really hot water and pop a towel over you and the water so you inhale all the steam).

Hope you recover!

It is
Oh and I forgot, you can of course take a normal dose of paractamol so space it so you can take some just before you go to bed to get maximum sleep and use the oil between times for som relief.

I'm exactly the same as you abgirl. I'm 10 weeks pregnant and just down from putting my 2 girls to bed. Feel absolutley dreadful. Am planning another hot bath soon and then I'll pray for some sleep which I didn't get last night.

Finding it very hard to be sick in the morning when I can't breathe through my nose even slightly! Such a good look!

hello

I had a dreadful one a few weeks ago. Lemon, honey and hot water yes, and lavender oil, also Eucalyptus oil or Olbas oil on tissues in pillow, on aromatherapy oil burner, or just in a few drops of water on a radiator, helps take the edge of the blocked nose (DH had it too, and snored like a F train so as well as the usual 7 times a night peeing from baby on the bladder, he was keeping me awake too

Roll on those healthy births so we can pop drugs again! no-one tells you the biggest arse of being pregnant and indeed a parent, is coping with being ill yourself. My DS now has a terrible cold and temperature, but spent all day loafing on the sofa propped up with blanket and cuddly lamb in front of Fireman Sam videos, with mummy rubbing Vicks on his chest, bringing little snacks etc.... fantasized about some giant doing the same for me, then picking me up and tucking me into bed..

Try tea-tree oil. It clears your nose and also has anti-viral properties.
Also, prop yourself up on lots of pillows at night.

abgirl · 16/02/2007 14:09

Ended up trying to sleep sat up on the sofa last night after trying to sleep in bed until 2.30ish. Not helped by a wakeful DS who eventually had teddies dancing and kissing him in an effort to persuade him back to bed.

time4tea, I definitely had a cotton wool head when reading your post, thought you had a baby which was peeing on your bladder - think it's time to give up and go home to lie in a darkened room!!

I read this as "pissed off with cod's pregnancy advice." I think I need a break

Isn't it something to do with your immune sysstem being slightly compromised when you are pregnant? I know I had the worst cough ever in my life when I was pregnant with ds1 - I had to 'sleep' sitting up because I couldn't stop coughing. Much sympathy...

MrsBadger · 16/02/2007 14:19

the ginger and lemongrass cordial from Bottlegreen made up with hot water and extra honey is very good (assuming you haven't drunk it all during morning sickness)

gegs73 · 16/02/2007 15:15

I was ill on and off for about 5 weeks when I was first pregnant with colds. Combined with morning sickness it was not good.

You can take cold pastile sweets and also simple linctus (sp?)medicine (honey and lemon or blackcurrant)Two different chemists told me these were fine. Enjoy

Bubbaloo · 16/02/2007 15:39

I've been really ill for about the last week now and haven't taken anything except Lockets which are useless IMO.
Still have an awful hacking cough though which makes me sound like a heavy smoker and hurts my chests each time and have just come back from Sainsburys with something for it.It's the Robitusin chesty cough medecine which the pharmacist said is apparently ok to use at 7 months pg.Don't know how far along you are-you might not be able to take it if you're only a few months pg.

abgirl · 17/02/2007 07:41

Bubbaloo I am 20 weeks but willing to try anything so will pop along to the pharmacy later!

I am just recovering from a stinker of a cold. Paracetamol and bed rest propped up on pillows was the only thing I could do.
Still have a rattling chest and a hacking cough.

DD sent me a valentine card with 'get well soon mummy' on it. I was in tears, bless her.
