Refusing Induction

Hi all,

Just wondered has anyone had any personal experience of refusing induction because they have gone overdue?

I'm currently 11weeks pg with baby number 4.Still getting my head around it! But all my other 3 babies I have been induced at 42 weeks. I assume I just carry longer than most as I did have 35 day cycle also.

Can I refuse induction this time of everything is ok? I would just like one more chance to go into labour on my own and have a natural labour. With my last child I ended up on the drip and it was horrible experience nearly ending in a C Section.

Any stories or help would be good! Thank you. :-)

Because I was 42 when I has ds I was booked for induction at 40weeks. On the day I didn't want to go through with it. The stress of being in hospital and discussing this sent me into labour, but unfortunately the contractions stopped.

Two days later I went back for a check up. They told me to pack a bag and come in for induction that day. So I did. I'm glad I did as I was far enough along for it to be a simple case of having my waters broken. Contractions were immediate, labour straight forward and ds arrived within 5 hours.

There are a lot of scare stories about inductions, but for me it was a positive experience and I am v grateful. Stillbirth is something we all know about but assume isn't a big risk. I have 3 friends who lost their dcs this way, and being close to them made me more receptive to the possibility it could happen to me. When it came to it the fear of being induced was outweighed by the fear that my placenta might fail.

Thank you everyone for your comments and sorry I'm late to reply!

If there was any danger to the baby I would definitely not even consider refusing induction. I just feel that the medical professionals say that at 12 weeks every baby is the same size and move due dates and that every woman is full term at 40 weeks. All women and babies are different imo!

I'm going to ask my midwife at my next appointment what my options are but then I also don't want to risk anything happening to my baby either. With my last ds I did think about refusing induction but did worry I would hate myself if anything went wrong because of my decision. I did then have a horrendous labour where his heart rate was dropping and it was a terrifying experience.

All my 3 were born with no vernix and all around 8lbs in weight which leads me to believe a few days later on my own I would've gone into labour. My middle child only took one pessary and 1.5 hours labour so he was definitely ready to come!

I'm so torn but I'll speak to the professionals and see what they say. My own risk are that I have thyroid problems and am classed as overweight. Otherwise I'm ok. Thanks for all your advice.

I don't think they use a pesary in induction if you have had a previous c-section - that's what my consultant told me on Monday (NI).

With DC1 I said I refused Induction & would want to go straight to c-section, which consultant was fine with.

I had a c-section at 39 weeks under maternal health reasons anyway & im 99% sure I'll do the same this time (which consultant was fine with on Monday thankfully!).
