Hi so i am currently 37 weeks and I'm being induced due to some medical problems. This morning at 11am they inserted a propess pessary (not sure of name, tampon thingy) and told me they would check in 24 hours and try to break my waters then. My cervix is soft according to dr and a tiny bit open. This was almost 7 hours ago and i've had mild cramping but nothing painful. How long did yours take?

We had this done on Monday as overdue 41+ 6. Had the pessary at about 3pm, monitored for an hour and then sent home. Contractions started around 4am next morning, went back in hospital at 11 as contractions were 4 mins apart. Babies heart rate was very fast when they hooked us up to the monitor and they made the call to do an emergency C Section pretty much straight away. Baby born 90 mins later.

No idea why they sent us home as every forum I have been on people have said they are kept in and monitored when being induced.

Hi everyone. Just to update as i'm feeling really disheartened. I had propess at 11am yesterday since then I've been monitored regularly & some mild contractions have been picked up nothing major at all Sad. Just hoping my waters can be broken when drs come back at 11. Feeling like i'll be given gel or something now.

Don't be too disheartened. I was induced at 38 weeks, they started with the propess on the Monday and I needed a dose of gel after that, they couldn't break my waters until the Wednesday morning but once they did the contractions really kicked in. I still needed the drip in the end as I wasn't progressing as quickly as they liked but it was successful and my DS was born on the Thursday morning.
All the best!

All 5 babies were 40+13 (weird!) and two of them were induced. One pessary only and 15 hours later she was born after around 6 hours of contractions, only 30 minutes intensely painful. 1st son born after pessary and oxytocin drip simultaneously (guess they don't do that any more) and 6 intense hours later...he was born

Good luck - don't get disheartened

Hi everyone so amazing news. Ive been checked & i am 1 - 2 cm dilated so i am being sent down to labour ward in a bit to break my waters, after that they will give me two hours to start contracting if not i will be put on drip which im not looking forward to because i heard its quite painful but oh well atleast i get to meet bubba soon finally.Grin

Glad all is progressing and wishing you the very best for a safe, terribly boring delivery. I am a huge fan of epidural and would highly recommend going straight to one if it gets very painful. Hope to see you posing soon about a healthy baby and a healthy you.

Hi. So i gave birth to a beautiful baby girl yesterday at 10.09 am. To share my story for others who may have to get induced also and need hope. So the process started two days before i gave birth, i was given a vaginal exam to check my see if my cervix was favourable for induction meaning soft and dilated. It wasn't dilated but was soft although far back so i was deemed favourable and given a pessary which they inserted into my vagina up behind my cervix, it looked like a thin tampon and didn't really hurt that much. After this i was told to wait 24 hours and be checked to see if my cervix had got dilated enough to break my waters and to expect contractions during this time. During the next 24 hours or so i felt extremely mild contractions and a dull ache, nothing more than a period pain i would say so i was convinced the pessary had made no difference. To my surprise i was checked and the midwife said i was 1-2cm dilated and they could break my waters. My waters were broke at around 4.30 pm i have to say this was very uncomfortable although was quick and after this i was given 2 hours to start contracting or i would be put on the drip to start them, i was really reluctant of this so I insisted to wait till 10pm to see if contractions progressed..they came but stopped about an hour later. At 10pm doctors decided i had waited long enough and gave me the drip and an epidural at the same time which i had wanted to not feel pain. The epidural was amazing and I didn't feel anything from then on, at 4 30 am i was checked and was 6cm dilated then again at 7 30 am and was ready to push. I was given an hour and a half to rest and started pushing at 9am, my baby was born within the hour and i only teared a little bit despite feeling no indication of when to push. I would like to say i had a positive experience with induction.
