I'm 12 + 3 and had a respite for a few days last week but it's back with a vengeance. The last 3 evenings have been terrible. I'm phobic about puking (sooo stupid, I know) which makes it all into a huge trauma - lots of lying on the bed holding it in an then panicking when I retch - anyone else out there phobic about sick -if so any suggestions?
ANyway mw said it'd be gone by 12 weeks and here I am still green - when does it normally go - have booked a holiday week 15 and now I'm worried won't make it!

There are a few emetophobics(sp?) on here who will hopefully be along with some coping tips

I stopped feeling sick at around 14 weeks with both pregnancies

Good luck with it all, btw

Hi Peanuthead

I'm 18 weeks now, I was throwing up every day from 6 weeks until 14 weeks. Then it calmed down and now I'm sick once a week!

No hard and fast rules but it is supposed to get better around 12 weeks when the placenta takes over the job of providing your baby with all it needs.

I'm not a fan of being sick but have got used to it now and know that it's better out than in! I couldn't be sick at work though - a good deterrent!

I am sure things will improve but everyone is different so you might have to go with it for a bit longer. Sorry - I don't have the magic wand to get rid of it

went by week 10 but did with all my pregnancies..feel so sorry for all those poor women who have it constantly

BabyMadwithBump · 13/02/2007 19:06

16 weeks

hollyandalice · 13/02/2007 19:13

18 weeks with this one, 32 weeks with dd!!! If you feel you can't cope any more or you cannot keep food or liquid down please don't feel silly about going to the doctors. You can get medication to stop the sickness and it won't effect the baby. I had to when pg with dd, if I hadn't I would have ended up in hospital on a drip.

Hey peanuthead, I just had my scan today and we are due the same day

I still feel nauseaous a lot, but vomiting much.

From past experience about 14-16 weeks should see the back of it. Even if it's not completely gone, I'm sure you'll feel a lot better by your holiday.

Ceolas · 13/02/2007 19:17

As for the emetophobia, there are loads of people who feel similarly on here.

Do a search on emetophobia or emetophobes and you'll see what I mean.

Hope things improve soon.

14 - 15 weeks started to feel better. But started at different times with different pregnancies and some I have been very sick others just felt terrible.

8 weeks+ now, last few days have been horrendous.

You have my sympathies it is miserable. When it stopped for me I felt fantastic so fingers crossed it shouldn't be long.

hi peanuthead. I have emetophobia - not so bad if at home but very severe social phobia - ie phobic about being sick in public. I have had 24 hour a day MS since week 5 (am now 10+6). Don't feel stupid about feeling like it - you can't help it. i have various coping techniques - which involve either keeping the anxiety at bay - or trying to establish some control over being sick. Now if i think i am going to be sick then i just get on and do it. The anticipation is much worse than the act. Focus on things which make you feel better - whether it is food, or something to distract you. Am happy for you to CAT me if you want to talk - i really do understand everything you are feeling and going through.

Thanks everyone = I have actually got buccastem - the dr gave to me straight away, bwefore it had really set in - I'm so glad as I couldn't have got through without it. I had no idea ms was so awful - thought it was true that a dry biscuit helps...

Had a look on some emetophobia threads but threw me into a panic! I thought I'd got over it as haven't been too bad for years - can retch ok but realise I've just been avoiding it for years.... MS has brought it back with a vengeance.

Ok so 14 weeks - that's 10 days!

And if anyone else (not on here) says oh have you tried ginger I'll kill them...

I'm 25 weeks with number three - my MS went at about 16 weeks this time. It was much sooner with the other two but then the MS wasn't as bad with them either. Glad that you've been to your GP and received a prescription - sound advice, that.

Not sure about tips for preventing MS, though. I found that sucking on a lollipop helped to ease it but nothing I tried ever completely prevented it. The worst thing to do though is to not eat anything - this just makes the nausea worse. Even if it's the last thing on Earth that you feel like doing, keep eating little and often. And don't forget plenty of fluids (especially when you are physically sick as well as feeling sick).

hollyandalice · 14/02/2007 15:29

I'm glad you got sorted. Doctors are usually really sympathetic to those with ms. They realise just how horrible it is. Sometimes medication is the only thing that makes you feel better!! Glad you're ok !
