How can you tell the difference between morning sickness and a bug? (*Warning - TMI*)

apologies for length and detail I'm 14 weeks and my nausea hasn't shown any real signs of tailing off at all but I've only actually vomitted say an average of perhaps twice a week. DS had a nasty bug and threw up Friday night but seemed absolutely fine come Saturday morning. I however, haven't managed to keep anything down for more than a couple of hours since Saturday night. Today the vomiting has been accompanied by quite urgent diarroahea too. The squits have led me to think this is a bug rather than just pregnancy sickness. What do you think? Is it normal to get squits if you've been vomitting so much? I know morning sickness doesnt always go away when you get to second trimester but does it ever get worse? Does the diarroaeh mean i've got a bug for sure? Also when should I worry about dehydration?

Sounds more like a bug than MS to me.

I don't think morning sickness generally gets worse as you get to the second trimester - it normally tails off, albeit sometimes very very slowly.
I also have never heard of diarrhoea as part of morning sickness. So I would guess that you have a bug of some sort.
Not sure about dehydration - perhaps look on the NHS Direct website?

no idea about bug vs morning sickness but on the squits front I had it really badly for about 2 weeks in early pregnancy and was told by Dr not to worry, just keep my fluid intake up even if I couldn't keep any food err..up.

I had what I think was a bug when I was 6 weeks gone, I was violently sick and I'm NEVER EVER sick (despite having experienced lots of nausea) even when I've got a raging hangover! My sister kept saying "oh it's morning sickness" esp as i happened to be sick in the morning, but I knew she was wrong. Sorry if this is tmi, but when I was sick, what came up was what I'd eaten 12 hours earlier, and that's not normal. Usually food leaves the stomach about 4 hours after eating (depending on what you've eaten). The diarrohea I had was totally liquid too, again sorry if tmi! DH was also sick with diarrohea too. To me it sounds like you've got a tummy bug, I was told there was one going round when I had mine three weeks ago. Keep drinking lemonade. I found it really helped, kept my fluid up and also a little bit of sugar stopped me getting all shaky!

You need to ring your GP, they may want you admitted to re-hydrate you.
