Really want something to cheer up my poor friend but I've never had this so can't imagine what she would appreciate. Obviously all food is out. Anything smelly e.g. flowers / bath stuff is a no. Maybe some cosy socks or a blanket?? Any other ideas??

You are lovely to think so carefully about this.

Indeed anything with any smell at all is a No.

Cosy socks or blanket is a lovely idea.

Audiobooks voucher...

Something pretty and soft to kneel on when throwing up!

Some sort of cool packs...I wrapped these in a towel when I was very very bad and held on my neck. Anything cold helped me.

Reflexology session at home on her bed so she doesn't need to move.

Just a few ideas there!

fourcorneredcircle · 08/11/2016 14:49

I second the audio books voucher. On the worst days I lay in the dark listening to stories.

RuskBaby · 08/11/2016 14:54

I'm 38+2 so super hormonal but that is so very kind of you! Just had a tear. You are a lovely friend. For me a super snuggly blanket to hide under is my go to when I've been throwing up.

ToastyFingers · 08/11/2016 14:56

A furry dressing gown or warm pyjamas.

Even the softest waistband on trousers would make me sick and anything close to my neck too, my dressing gown didn't get taken off for days at a time.

NerrSnerr · 08/11/2016 14:59

Cozy socks or blanket would be a lovely gift. Gets hopes up slightly that you're my friend and I'll be expecting a parcel soon.

Nothing smelly! Smells can make people feel sick when suffering hyperemesis.
Something comforting, a soft blanket or dressing gown, a nice book maybe.
Ice cold fizzy drinks, ice lollies and ginger lollies are the only things that got me through.

MackerelOfFact · 08/11/2016 15:11

A bucket? Grin

Seriously though, maybe a nice water bottle so she can sip on it throughout the day ([http://www.waterbobble.uk Bobble Bottle]] or similar?

Some books or DVDs?

Mol1628 · 08/11/2016 15:12

Audio books. Great idea. I didn't have the energy to sit up and read and got sick of tv so audio books were brilliant. Also a hot water bottle or rice pack thing, nice blanket, fluffy socks.

Mol1628 · 08/11/2016 15:14

Or perhaps a Netflix subscription if she doesn't have it.

Busy77 · 08/11/2016 15:20

Audiobooks, socks, lollipops, bobble bottle - all things I had and they made a huge difference. The bobble bottle especially as it is so big. Maybe a really soft long sleeved t shirt to wear in bed. Boiled sweets like barley sugar helped too.

Busy77 · 08/11/2016 15:21

Audiobooks -
Recommend the Jeffrey archer 7 book series - days of entertainment, easy to follow!!!

Crystal15 · 08/11/2016 15:23

Blanket. Socks. Book. Cooling thing for freezer. Herbal tea. I was still ok with smelly bath things

ChilliMum · 08/11/2016 15:23

Audio books are a great idea just lying flat with my eyes closed is all I could cope with. An audio book would have been fantastic.

Nikki2ol6 · 08/11/2016 17:18

I have a giant bean bag cost £25 and iv never felt so comfortable in my life!!
Or perhaps a nice fleece dressing gown

redjumper · 08/11/2016 17:41

Lovely ideas. What a nice friend you are.

How about giving her some help around the house, or taking her children out if she has any? Maybe a cleaner for a one off clean. I realise these are all a bit weird and could even be a bit offensive i.e. 'Your house is a mess'. But I'd have loved that.

redjumper · 08/11/2016 17:48

Here's some helpful advice from the pregnancy sickness support service for friends and family of sufferers

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2016 17:49

Not a water bottle, I wasn't even that bad but the thought of drinking made me Envy and the suggestion it would help made me Angry.

Magazines and a blanket get my vote. Or very nice/ cashmere bed socks.

Or

babyboyHarrison · 08/11/2016 17:51

I second the help around the house or with any other kids. Literally the only thing that helped me was lying very still in bed so anything that meant I could do more of that helped. It is very isolating and lonely feeling like this especially in early pregnancy as they may not have told many people so just keeping in touch with them often is nice and will help them feel less depressed.

FusionChefGeoff · 08/11/2016 19:53

Wow that's brilliant thank you so much. She's definitely been pretty isolated as can't really move very far and I love the audiobook idea - I know she's got an ipad can you download using an iTunes voucher or does it have to be a special audiobook one? Will definitely offer to do anything I can when I'm there - not expecting to be hosted Grin - but her DH is a Star so I think he's keeping everything ticking over.

Right, cosy socks and a blanket on the list for tomorrow!!
