Hi, Im 13 weeks pg, with my second. I have been having thrush?( I presume, as i had it last pg, its loads of white bits) last couple of weeks. I have appointment in couple weeks with mw.I always wash and clean when i feel it, and it feels rather little itchy if too much comes. Im so sorry its so TMI, but i have no one to disguss it After almost 2m of (I)having a big No No to sex, we did it last night, and dh mentioned he feels little itchy down there tonite. Which really worried me. Honestly, thrush has been on and off, i didnt tell dh about it I just rushed upstairs to check my cabinet, and found a cream i had last pregnancy when i had the same problem. It says use before June 06, shall i use it just call mw tomorrow?
Did i transfered it to DH, is it dangerious? Well i mean, do any harm?
A bit worried. But ot told DH. Came here straight away. Please help me?

you`ve probably been passing it to each other for the last couple of months henc e thats why you keep getting it , i think men dont have the same symptoms as us women so its not as noticeable

IdrisTheDragon · 11/02/2007 20:29

You have probably infected your DH - he will need to use canesten to treat it as otherwise he will reinfect you. Won't do him any harm but he will get itchy.

I personally would see the midwife or doctor and see if you can get them to prescribe pessaries for you - when I was pregnant I frquently got thrush and pessaries and cream together shifted it.

I would use some of the old cream, although it is probably not as effective as it might otherwise have been.

Don't worry about having thrush - it is very common in pregnancy and not to do with not being clean.

You can use the cream, No5 but it just might not be as effective. It'll tide you over until tomorrow when you can get some more. You and DH both need to treat yourselves. Otherwise you will keep passing the thrush backwards and forwards to each other. Unfortunately this means telling him but it will be worth it. It's not dangerous to either of you, just bloody uncomfortable! I had dreadful time with thrush when I was pg. I used the cream and the pessary. I checked with the mw who said it was fine to use the pessary so long as I didn't put it up too high and didn't use the introducing stick that comes with it. Now that really is TMI! But I'm sharing because I know how uncomfortable and miserable it can be. Good luck!

Crossed with you, Idris. Great minds....

Of course you need a cream to clear it up, but may i suggest eating less bread and the like in future. I cut bread out completely only had sourdough, and didn't get thrush again. Although can now eat bread. no problem.

You can buy Canesten Combi cream and pessary at the supermarket. He can use some of the cream. Best double check it's ok to use when pg but I think so.
People say natural 'live' yogurt helps, too.

Defo use the exisitng cream until you get some more advice. As everyone has sid he needs to use it too as he will be infected and it has probably been going back and forth for months.

If your thrush is chronic/ or you get is easily her are some other plractical tips:

Try not to be overzealous with washing "down below" as the irritation can trigger the thrush taking a hold. Avoid soaps and wash with aqueous cream or just water. You can get it in any chemist and its really cheap. Its soap free and alos doubles up a a very gentle moisturiser.

Avoid having bubble baths (as the soap is an irritant).

And an oldie but goodie is to wear cotton knickers and to iron the "gussets". Now that nobody does the old fashioned boil washes the fungal spores that cause thrush are not killed. Ironing at high temp will kill them.
