Did you use a baby seat/bouncer?

Starting to think that we really have to start shopping for the big stuff soonish, especially after the awful dream i had last night when i went into labour and had baby in the kitchen - am only 23+ weeks which made it extra disturbing.

So baring in mind that there are sooo many gadgets that i would like to spend money on am trying to be a bit practical. I was reading an article about baby seats - love this one, i would as its the most expensive one on the page!

www.twoleftfeet.co.uk/acatalog/Concord_Rio_Rocker.html

but cant find any reviews about it.

How useful is a baby seat/rocker/bouncer (whatever you want to call it) Did you use one?

Thanks in advance

I used mine a lot, dd didn't like being on her back too much, so it was handy for the first few months so she could see me while making a sarnie or cuppa.

BibiThree · 08/02/2007 13:37

We only had a basic one from Mothercare, and it was fine. Wouldn't spend too much on a musical, vibrating one as they can't be in them too long and grow out of them quickly.

Nemo2007 · 08/02/2007 13:38

I have used one with all three of mine, however at £60 it is soooo expensive for what it is. Go into mothercare etc and find one at half the price. Or if wanting to spend that much go for something like a fisher prices take along aquarium swing...by far much much better and gives you some peace as it will rock the baby. I was given one when I had DD1 and am using it again for DD2. I only wish I had known about it when having DS.

bristols · 08/02/2007 13:39

I wouldn't have been without mine. Just got a simple mothercare one. I didn't want DS to get used to being rocked/swung to sleep. We used it all the time. I would just pick him up in the chair and take him from room to room with me. He still loves it now, at 5 months. Will have to stop using it soon when he can sit up

SenoraPostrophe · 08/02/2007 13:40

the wire mothercare ones are brill - ds can rock his by himself by flapping his arms. don't bother getting anything more expensive.

didibops · 08/02/2007 13:41

We used them with all 3. Invaluable IMO.
With our middle child we splashed out on an expensive musical vibrating one and she absolutely hated it! The other 2 had just plain cheap ones and enjoyed being in them. So I'd just go for a basic one.

mosschops30 · 08/02/2007 13:41

I bought a bouncer for ds and he loved it, used it a lot when he was small. Think I only paid £12 in argos for mine and that people pay £60 + for this when you use it for such a short amount of time

WestCountryLass · 08/02/2007 13:41

I had a baby seat, the Chicco one, it was really handy, as baby has to sit somewhere other than in your arms or in a car seat

geordiemacminx · 08/02/2007 13:42

Heard bad reports from others re twoleftfeet so I would possibly look somewhere else...

itsmeNDP · 08/02/2007 13:43

Yes, used it lots

Sheraz · 08/02/2007 13:44

I had a fab one it was a mamams and papas chair with adjustable recline. But the best thing about it was that it had handles so you could move baby around thehouse with you when they were in it ( esp good if fell asleep in it) It was one of the best things I ever bought. I only paid about £30 but it was great. i used to strap a mobile onto it, I weaned tehm sitting in it, it was good to give them a break from lying flat when they were tiny. All round good value.

oliveoil · 08/02/2007 13:49

I got a really cheap one from Mothercare, bog standard basic and used it lots

cover was removeable

about £10 or so

don't go for an all singing all dancing one - two words....BABY SICK

xx

Sheraz · 08/02/2007 13:51

this one looks good here

fruitful · 08/02/2007 13:51

Didn't use it so much with first baby, cos I could just lie her on the floor. With ds though, I couldn't lie him on the floor (he had reflux and needed to sit up, plus he would have got trodden on by the toddler).

There are two sorts - the ones that lie nearly flat or sit up, and rock and are often called "cradles". And the piece-of-cloth-on-a-wire-frame sort. I had one of each; it was nice not to have to carry it up and down stairs, and to have somewhere to park ds on every floor!

[don't buy from 2leftfeet - look them up on here - loads of trading standards complaints]

The rocker sort (like the one you've seen) are a bit more substantial and you can rock them with your foot while you sit on the sofa, and recline to the angle that your baby likes, and they can nap in it. The wire-frame-bouncy sort - def get the cheapest one - the baby can bounce in it himself. The posher ones need rocking for them and they often don't like the vibrating / noisy / flashing things anyway.

Sheraz · 08/02/2007 13:52

Sorry not ggod link but go to home page and teh Hauck Pooh rocker on sale!

Flower3554 · 08/02/2007 14:07

I absolutely love mine, and it vibrates, and it has the playarch thingy that plays music

It has been a godsend with "my" babies. I haven't found a baby that didn't like it, maybe I've just been lucky

Totally agree with fruitful re the rock them with your foot.

Confession time:

I've just bought a new rocker that you can plug an mp3 player into and play music to the baby.

Problem being I don't know what an mp3 player is

Sheraz · 08/02/2007 14:12

LOL flower!(Took me a month to work out what to do with my MP3!)

Orchide · 08/02/2007 14:14

OK so in short - great purchase, possibly on the must have list. But dont be a sucker and spend 60 quid??!!

Thanks all

yes but brought cheapest one.just bounced no lights, music etc just bounced!couldnt really have lived without one for all 3.argos have got cheap £9.99(i think)one no frills but just the ticket!

Nemo2007 · 08/02/2007 14:30

that hauck pooh rocker is the one we had for DS, was great as it lay flat and could remove covers when he threw up.

GillL · 08/02/2007 16:14

We bought a good one from Mothercare (don't think it was branded) and we used it a lot. dd slept in it (as dh worked nights and couldn't put dd in her cot in our room) and she would also sit in it while I did housework etc. Also found it very useful when weaning before she could sit up in a high chair. We got one which went from reclining til it was completely flat to sitting up straight, so it was very flexible. I would highly recommend getting one.

Sorry to crash in here (just lurking in preg, we're ttc) but my Mum tells a fab story of me as a toddler standing behind my baby sister's bouncy chair and pulling it down to the floor before letting it go with a cry of 'ping!' Reminded of this by the post that says about baby not being safe on the floor with toddler around, well maybe a bouncy chair isn't that much safer!!
