37+5 and my tooth just broke!

Absolutely gutted, one of my back teeth just broke, the corner snapped off it. It needed refilled a couple of months ago but the dentist didn't want to touch it while I was pregnant because of the mercury in the filling, and now this has happened. Is there any point in me ringing for an appointment in the morning or should I just wait until I have my baby and hope it doesn't get sore?

Definitely ring for an appointment! They can probably pack it with something that's safe for you and baby and will stop it getting infected in the meantime - last thing you want right now is for it to go septic or give you an infection!

Few years back I was about 32 weeks and cannot quite remember what went wrong with one of my teeth (abscess, dead nerve... The lot probably) and there was an amalgam filling on it. The dentist put quite an elaborate feeling 'dental well' around the tooth (not sure if he called it that) and sorted it out. Not completely, but took the excruciating pain away and allowed me to properly fix it about 6 months after giving birth. So mine was a bit more drastic case but am sure they can sort yours out if needed (temporarily at last), despite the mercury. Definitely worth checking it at least.

Since falling pregnant (now 38 weeks) my dentist of over 20 years has seen me to replace one bloody filling 8 times now!! Keeps coming out, think due to baby/calcium, I've never had an issue with his fillings before, and I'm a bit of a dentist wimp so I've been gutted.

Last time was 2 weeks ago, and the couldn't get me in for a week and he said if happens again get in sooner as gum starts expanding into tooth space. I'm booked in for a full appointment in 6 weeks after baby here to have it all properly redone finally

I had a tooth break at 34wks - dentist sorted it for me (actually, she treated me as a special emergency because I was heavily preg). Pregnancy does funny things to your teeth and gums.

He was pretty confident last time I was there that it would be fine until after I had baby. I haven't had any pain whatsoever in it, the break was totally out of the blue, it must be the pregnancy! I'm an absolute wuss going to the dentist as well so could really do without it right now

Spent the day in the dentist for the exact same thing - wisdom tooth cracked and agony. He's filled it temporarily which was virtually pain free! and i hate dentists!!! haven't been in years and actually am going back tom and registering as a pt as it was such a pleasant experience. Have realised i was an idiot for not doing it sooner xxx

OMG, didn't realise this was a thing. The edge of my tooth broke this week, I had no idea it was pregnancy related. Can't see dentist til next week - shan't get my hopes up for a quick fix now.

with my first one .. with in 2 days my one tooth got decayed ... it was very surprising for me.. because lack of vitamin D made it Sooooooooo weak...

baby takes calcium from you... if you dont have your recharges .. baby takes it from your teeth and bones.... that makes your bones fragile..
please go and get tested

and please dont get Silver filling........... as it has great amount of mercury...
and you know mercury is very very bad for pregnancy..
and gives Alzheimer in ... long term if it exists in mouth for years

Ignore the last post with the mad mercury conspiracy theories that often pop up online. There are some reasons for limiting amalgam exposure in pregnancy but your dentist is qualified to discuss these with you and recommend alternatives.

But do go to your dentist - they can do lots safely in pregnancy and if the full treatment isn't recommended, they will at the very least assess the damage done, advise on how to deal with it for now and may offer temporary solutions.

I had a chat with my dentist about amalgam exposure when I was in a couple of months ago, I had a stillbirth last year so while he said the risks weren't too high with it he didn't want to do anything at all that might have an adverse effect on this pregnancy.

Just rang, they review the emergency appointments at 9 and ring back the ones they're going to deal with today. Fingers crossed they sort me out because I'm scared to eat on it! (Mind you, with the amount I've been eating lately a couple of days on soup will probably do me good )
