My doctor seems to think this is big and has slightly upset me today. I am not overweight and have so far put on 2 stone in the pregnancy. No gestational diabetes. Is this really so big? How much larger should baby get at full term? She thinks my pelvis is too small for a vaginal birth. Scared FTM.

I think this is OK. Try not to worry. I was told DS was 7.5lbs at 36 weeks and was a little worried. He ended up being 9lbs 8, and I did end up with a c-section, but I was also nearly two weeks overdue. So he had gained less than half a pound a week after 36 weeks. Assuming this scan accurate, I would imagine your baby likely to be a very healthy 8 or 8 1/2 lbs if born at term, but not more than that. I think the NHS defines "big" babies as over 4.5kg, which is closer to ten pounds, and it's only at that sort of weight that risks like shoulder dystocia etc become higher.

Try not to worry afaik growth scans can be so inaccurate I had one at 35/36 weeks that put my baby at 8lbs and she was only 7lb13 when she was (finally) born at 41+4
