IUGR first baby, 2nd% SGA

Hi all

I'm pregnant with my second DC. 1st DS was induced due to IUGR (only just learnt this handy acronym) at 40+3 and weighed in at 6lb2oz. He thrived there after and no problems.

I've just had my 12 week scan for no 2 and on the scan growth chart it notes DC1 being 2nd%tile and SGA. Has anyone had this and what did it mean for your pregnancy? I'm guessing they may send me to the consultant and for extra scans? I'm not too worried as I think I might just grow small babies? I didn't think DC was that small at birth but this has got me thinking!

It means that if you took 100 first time mums of your height and ethnicity where the babies were all born at 40+3, your baby would have been the second smallest. This classes as "small for gestational age" aka sga.
It's a more accurate way of picking up small babies that just using a number cut off.
Yes you should have 2 or 3 extra scans.

First baby was IUGR, 2nd centile too. I wouldn't say 6lbs 2oz was bad at all. DD1 was 5lb 15oz and she wasn't considered too badly growth restricted.
Recently had another DD, had growth scans throughout and a close eye on placenta and she was born 7lbs 7oz at 38 weeks! Massive difference in weight and no worries at all. Congratulations!

Also yes, you should be consultant led. I had a scan every 2-4 weeks from 20 weeks.

thank you agrufflo and nan0 ! yes i always thought he was small but not significantly so. More scans seems fine, just hoping it doesn't lead to being induced again.
