Not a pleasant topic but I have developed piles last week that seem to be going nowhere and I'm 36 weeks pregnant. I dread the thought of them still being here when I give birth and wanted advice from any fellow sufferers on how to get rid soon. My GP prescribed Anusol suppositories on Tuesday which have done nothing. Please share any thing you took to clear the things as well as reduce pain til they go,

Have you tried the anusol cream? I found it really really fast acting and effective. I just used it a couple of times a day and they were usually gone within a week or less Flowers

The best thing I found is Scheriproct which can be cream or suppositories. You need something with a steroid in it to speed up healing.

I also found salt baths very soothing for the external ones.

(29 weeks here and also suffering!)

Interested in this as I'm 33 weeks and have discovered one...likewise, would like to try and do something about the problem before giving birth and making it 10 times worse 😕 xx

Ugh, they're horrible aren't they? Had them on and off throughout pregnancy and none of the over-the-counter stuff worked for me. GP gave me prescription cream called proctosedyl which helped a lot but didn't completely get rid of them. Using wipes instead of tissue also helped, as well as witch hazel on cotton wool pads. I still had mine when I gave birth, and pushing made them worse BUT I guarantee you won't care about either when the time comes! They had gone after a few weeks. Good luck and enjoy the newborn snuggles :)

I'm feeling your pain!! Am due tomorrow and suffering with the buggers. Am currently trying anusol (steroid one) and prep H for the soothe.

Another vote for scheriproct suppositories

Craftycakey15 · 01/10/2016 15:30

Avoid constipation and straining. Drink plenty of water. Use wet wipes rather than tissue and make sure to dry the area thoroughly. Lots of different over the counter things to try, people tend to prefer different ones.

Scheriproct is available otc here but IIRC its prescription only in the UK.

If you are using a cream it can help to push any that are (ahem) protruding gently back up with the nozzle when applying your cream. I also found ice wrapped in a flannel soothing.

They are bastard things Flowers

I also recommend asking your GP for scheriproct. I used cream rather than suppositories as I have a bit of a fear of suppositories Blush

It is unlikely you'll get them to go away now and even if you do, they'll come back after the birth. I had absolutely massive ones after giving birth earlier this year (they'd been there since about 28 weeks but ballooned to the size of walnuts after the birth). They were all cleared up and gone by the time DS was about 2/3 months old.

Get some garlic, boil it then cool and mash and apply with some cotton wool. It's the only thing that soothed mine
