Has anyone here been given cyclizine injections to self administer at home to treat HG?

Also, is an early scan standard in hospital on admission for HG/being given the aforementioned prescription? Thanks.

I was never given injections to do myself I had ondansetron (zofran) tablets. I had a scan at 7 weeks because they were checking to see if it was a multiple birth that was causing increased hormones.

Cyclizine is not an easy injection to give. It can cause quite a bit of pain & make you feel quite unwell. I've never heard of injection form being given as a TTA (take away med from hospital)

Thank you, someone I know has been giving me lots of information about their HG diagnosis and I feel awful but I'm suspicious they are lying. I have had HG in both of my pregnancies with multiple admissions and had to try multiple med/med combinations and have regular IV hydration. I also had scans to check for multiples both times but they said they haven't been scanned and apparently do not have enough 'points' to be admitted despite the fact they say they still can't keep anything down at all (although they are out and about according to their face book).

They are saying this is what they have been given multiple cyclizine injections per day (although admittedly they do have experience with administering injections before this). It's not something I've heard off myself so thought I would check in case with was a more common thing than I thought.

I've been admitted to hosp with HG in both pregnancies and not heard about cyclizine injections! For DS1 I had scans each time I was admitted but for DS2 I only had a scan the first time I was admitted.

They didn't always admit me when I turned up because I didn't have enough keytones in my urine. I technically wasn't dehydrated enough even though I couldn't keep anything down. I usually ended up back there the following day in an even worse state and would be admitted.

Injections no but on cyclizine tablets and helped a lot

Cyclizine is widely used in the injectable form both in to a vein & into a muscle, it is a common medication in hospitals, in tablet form it is also relatively common in the community (although less so in recent years I believe). The dose is usually 50mg up to 3 times a day

I self inject cyclizine not for pregnancy related stuff (I hav a two yr old) but for Ménière's disease.
This causes extreme vomiting.
I was reffered from Midlands to a specialist ballance unit in London & they said I was the first paitent ever to self inject cyclizine.
I will explain below the procedure & other info such as supplies that may help u distinguish if her description in genuine or not.
Ent recomended it after I overdosed on tablets (replacing ones I thought I had vomited up) & also I was being carted off to a&e for the injection.
ENT wouldn't take the responcability but passed that on to said GP. Who had to take responsibility for the injection prescribing, teaching & any side effects (cyclizine injections can b addictive & misused)
The GP (not my regular one) was very unsure about prescribing it. He had family come to b taught how to do it.
The GP seemed to imply that if it's injected incorrectly into blood if can cause heart & other isues (I already hav a heart condition). If it's injected under the skin that can cause a bulge and the skin to breakdown.
I was instructed to inject in the upper arm in a very spesific spot (2 finger widths down from the bone at top of arm).
So to do the injection I break open the vial (there ar gray spots in the class that u press as u snap the top off to help giv it a clean break). Then put needle on to syringe (the needles ar longer then the fee sort drug users may get). Syring is standard length but very slim only 1.0ml at full capticity = 1 vial of cyclizine. Flick syringe & squirt out any air bubbles.
If I'm on my own & about to inject I call a family member or GP surgery inform them of my exact location.
Put needle in arm & draw back plunger to check no blood enters syringe (should b in muscle if any blood enters don't proceed) inject slowly. Call them back to say I'm ok. If I don't call theybar to call for an ambulance.
From what I understand cyclizine can b for self injection for various illnesses but it never the "first or safest option".
I was initially prescribed the wrong sort of syranges. They gave me syringes with needle already attatched with an orange cap, diabetics may use these but in my case the needle (12.7mm) was too short.
Needles were changed to the free ones (not attatched to a syring like u would find in GP surgery) 25mm long.
The label on my cyclizine says I can self inject every 6 hrs. There ar 5 ampules in a box (two boxes ar ment to last me two months to avoid addiction).

I had awful HG with my pregnancy,

I was scanned the first time I was admitted to hospital at 6 weeks to check for multiples.

Had IV cyclazine and ondansatron in hospital but was discharged with oral medication.

In America people get pumps with cyclazine but in the U.K. I've only ever heard of tablet form as it can have some awful side effects which are worse when injected.

I've had cyclzine injections, in the gp surgery and when admitted to hospital for he, but never to self administer.

I was prescribed oral cyclzine, then stemetil and when that stopped helping and now I'm taking odansetron

I have had cyclazine on prescribed injections in the past - for about two years after hall stone removal I would get sudden and continuous bouts of vomiting that would not stop without medical help, it didn't happen a lot but every few months something would set me off and I just wouldn't be able to stop. My experience was as Alysg described. Except I was given a specific point in my thigh muscle. My husband had to come to the training with me. It can be prescribed but I think it's very unusual. I'm on cyclazine tablets at the momment for HG. The GP said he would be willing to discuss injections if they didn't work since I had experience. Thankfully, the tablets do seem to be cutting down on the vomiting if not the nausea.

Curiouscourgette - I know this is a late reply but yes, I was prescribed cyclizine to inject at home for HG. It was the only way I could stay out of hospital. My husband was shown by nurses how to do it and although it was extremely painful it was better than a hospital admission. I’m not sure that anyone would lie about having to do something so awful? I was trusted to do this at home due to my other medical conditions and I think my drs seem to feel that both my husband and I were capable of administration of these medications. I was unable to tolerate any of the tablets so this was the best of a bad situation x
