32 weeks no movement since I woke at 8, finding it hard not to phone midwife for six hours

Second pregnancy. Am just over 32 weeks. Baby usually very active when I'm awake. I normally lie a few minutes, and don't get up before feeling baby move. Woke at eight. But had to get up at 8.30 to get first child up. Still haven't felt any movement.

This isn't normal for my baby.
But all info I've found online says wait for six hours of no movement, before contacting community midwife.

Horrendous section first birth, really want relaxed hypnobirth this time round, so don't want to contact services unnecessarily (as I need a "clean sheet" ie no medical issues) to be allowed to try for natural birth this time.
Any advice? what would you in this situation? Does anyone have any experience similar to this?
MANY THANKS in advance.

Don't wait. Phone now. I did this at about your stage. Got scan. All was well. But certainly worth peace of mind.

TwentyTinyToes · 13/09/2016 10:53

I would just ring them and go in. Sod the cold water - ring now. They won't mind at all. Flowers

Def 2 hours here, but they also impressed that could call/go up at any time.

DrWhy · 13/09/2016 10:54

Definitely don't wait 6 hours, you could try drinking something cold and sugary and lying on your side but if that doesn't set the baby off sharpish (within less than an hour) I'd go in, given that it's been nearly 3 hours already. Alternatively call the community midwife now and they will tell you if there is anything they suggest you try before going in - don't just wait.
As others have said, being monitored and having no problem won't stop you having a natural birth. I'm 40+5 today and definitely wasn't told anything about 6 hours, only to call if I had any concerns.

MyKingdomForBrie · 13/09/2016 10:55

Just call and go in, really isn't worth waiting.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 13/09/2016 10:58

Just go. You've waited 2 hours already. Don't bugger about.

Sewblunt · 13/09/2016 11:02

Yes phone them straight away! Hope everything is OK and baby is just napping.

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 13/09/2016 11:02

Where on earth did you read 6 hours Hmm. Call triage now!

Call now, go in. If you get movements on the way in they won't mind, and will still want to monitor you now anyway I expect

SleepFreeZone · 13/09/2016 11:07

Agree, just ring straight away, they won't mind.

MrsJoeyMaynard · 13/09/2016 11:09

Agree with everyone else, call and get checked out now.

I went in a few times for checks with my DC - anterior placentas both times so it was sometimes difficult to feel movements - and the midwives really don't mind checking things out.
They always said to call if worried, they'd much rather deal with a false alarm, than have someone put off calling for whatever reason and then find out there really is a problem.

Eatthecake · 13/09/2016 11:09

The waiting six hours is complete rubbish, I don't know where you read that but it's rubbish!

You haven't felt your baby move since you woke up, you need to be checked out please please call the midwife or go to hospital and get checked out.

You can't be too careful and it's better to get checkout and it be nothing that not to get checked out at all.

Twice.

At 32 weeks, went in, had trace, baby did the can-can. All absolutely fine. I was hugely apologetic. Midwives could not have been nicer, said never, ever feel you are wasting our time.

At 33 weeks, went in, had trace, baby in distress, emergency C-section there and then. Ultimately, all absolutely fine (and I don't like to think about the alternative if I hadn't gone in).

Phone the hospital, go in.

Nyborg · 13/09/2016 11:18

My baby did this at 37 weeks - no movement first thing in the morning when he usually was very active, and so I phoned and they told me to come in. I was parking up in the hospital carpark when he suddenly went beserk again and my seatbelt was twanging. I went in to apologise and say I didn't need to be checked, but they monitored me anyway to be sure. It's always worth phoning.

BertieBotts · 13/09/2016 11:20

Good luck OP, hope everything is OK. Just go in ASAP.

Lj8893 · 13/09/2016 11:22

Never heard the 6 hour thing, what utter nonsense! Dangerous too!!

I would phone triage or labour ward depending on your hospitals system. Community midwife would only refer you there anyway.

Kione · 13/09/2016 11:27

Phone.
I have lots of anxiety due to previous miscarriage, I didn't feel movement a few weeks ago and I called in. They used the doppler mic, heartbeat fine, etc. They were really nice and said do not hesitate in coming again if you need to "we don't mind, it takes 10 minutes".

maybethedayafter · 13/09/2016 11:48

They would always rather you went in to get checked out. Hopefully baby is just having a lazy day but it'd be best to have that confirmed at the hospital.

Nikki2ol6 · 13/09/2016 12:05

But it could well have been 6 hours plus ! If you still have felt nothing now I would go in! But often if you ring they might say wait another hour and lay down and have a cold drink and see if this gets him moving X

crayfish · 13/09/2016 12:57

Phone imeediately. I went in twice for reduced movement with DS and nobody told me to wait, in fact the second time I said I would go home (I was at work) and get my notes and they said to leave them and come straight in. It's really very important to get these things checked even though everything is probably fine (it was with me).

bessie84 · 13/09/2016 12:59

i hope you've gone in OP, please do, my heart sinks reading posts like this, ALWAYS GO GET CHECKED, ALWAYS - from somebody who left it too late with my first pregnancy (at 41+3)

blueskyinmarch · 13/09/2016 13:01

How worrying. I hope you are away getting it checked out now and that all is well.

sycamore54321 · 13/09/2016 13:09

As above, get checked.

I'd also do some serous reflection as to why natural birth is so important to you that you are seemingly willing to put your baby at risk. VBAC carries certain risks, the best way to mitigate these is to have entirely free and open communication with your healthcare team. By being willing to 'hide' reduced movement, you are not doing this. I can appreciate the natural human instinct of so desperately hoping everything is ok that you jut pretended it really is, as the alternative is too painful to contemplate. But I think you underestimate the importance of reporting any change in your baby's movements, and overestimate the importance of VB. I am sorry if this sounds harsh but it is so important and the price if things go wrong is so high, that I wanted to make my view clear. I really hope you are getting monitored right now seeing a gorgeous healthy baby, and that you take a little minute when all calms down to think about priorities.
