Five Weeks Pregnant with my first and very few symptoms

Hi there,

I am about five weeks pregnant with my first child and aside from sheer exhaustion and the occasional, out of character emotional outbursts, I haven't had any other symptoms of pregnancy. MY GP refuses to refer anyone to the midwife until you are at least ten weeks, so I haven't had any anti-natal checks as of yet.

The reason I'm asking is because I've read loads of blogs/articles which all state by now you should be experiencing nausea/vomiting/cravings/and the need to go to the toilet a lot more.

I have been going to the toilet but I think this more down to drinking more water than I'm used to. I get very fleeting feelings of nausea but these usually pass very quickly, or are so mild I don't give it much thought. I was sick earlier this week, once, but I was coughing a lot, having given up the cigs so I think that was probably why I was sick.

I'm just a bit worried because until I have my anti-natal appointments, I'm not going to know how things are progressing, though I haven't had any bleeding or severe cramps which I've read can hint towards a miscarriage. Just more trapped wind than normal. I think because this is my first child, I have no idea what to expect so I find myself worrying about things maybe more often than I should.

I've cut out drinking, smoking, caffeine and trying to remain as active as I can be (half and hour walking per day ect). I'm trying to eat as healthily as I can so my little apple seed can grow. I just want to know if not having many, if any symptoms, is normal at this stage. I've tried researching it but most articles tell me what I should be feeling, and as I'm not its got me a bit worried. Any advice from any mummies who have been here before would be muchly appreciated.

Thank you :)
Jen xx

I think symptoms mean nothing, I too got myself so worried over this, I even had symptoms one week which would suddenly stop and I'd have none the next. It was very concerning at the time but now I can say to others don't worry as I genuinely think it's ok.

I'm currently 7.3 weeks and I did have sickness but not to the extreme with my son. I'm also feeling the same as you Hun it's scary you just think the worst! I'm sure all is fine. Good luck Smile xx

I have had no first trimester symptoms on any of my pregnancies. Sadly the first two ended in late miscarriages, which was devastating and which I sought to blame on the lack of symptoms. However I had the same situation in my third successful pregnancy and again now on my ongoing fourth pregnancy. So it may be how your body reacts to pregnancy rather than the success or otherwise of this particularly pregnancy for you. I have no idea if it is related but I never get menstrual symptoms other than bleeding either. Easier said than done but try not to worry unduly. You have no control over this, the most important thing is that right now you are pregnant and have no reason to believe things won't be ok. Congratulations.

I always think the worst you go through all the emotions trying to conceive and when it happens you just worry constantly just going to try and relax and not stress my little boy keeps me buy anyways doctors next week to get it confirmed xx

Congratulations!!!

Symptoms are all bollocks! I'm 24 weeks and still awaiting the nausea Grin increased need to wee is only in the last couple of weeks and at night for me. I've had no increase in appetite (actually mine has decreased and I lost weight. I was "healthy" to begin with too)

Don't worry. Look after yourself, take your multi vits and enjoy your jeans whilst you still can!

Thank you so much for all your help and reassurance. I'm going to do as all you mummies say and try and kick back and enjoy it and see what happens lol. Thanks again :) xxx

I never had any symptoms either throughout my pregnancy thus far. I worried myself that something can't be right, however all is well and as my midwife told us, font believe everything you read and count yourself lucky your body is coping exceptionally well. Good luck x

I am in the same position. 5 weeks and nothing confirmed from the gp. I have been very tired but nausea I am begining to think may be slightly in my head as I know it may be coming soon......sounds crazy but it is my first so no idea what to expect until I speak with a pro and see the little one on the scan!
