I was just wandering if anyone here is on the larger side (like me) and pregnant?
I don't know when I'll see a bump (or if I ever will!)

Getting a consultants appointment round here is like finding hens teeth! I'm old (40 when baby is due), fat (bmi 35 pre pregnancy ), and have an ivf pregnancy. Apparently I'm low risk.

So although this is a completely useless post for you- would you mind coming back on and telling me what happened? I'm trying to decide if I should push for a consultant led or not.
Sorry I'm not being helpful. Flowers

My BMI was 36 pre baby and I was a size 18. I was worried I wouldn't have much of a bump- needn't have worried!!

Drinkyourmilk more than happy to share what happens. Amazing how different the responses are across regions. I'm in Kent - where are you?

I'm 5 weeks with my first, and am about a size 16. My belly is already pretty big, I really hope I'll get to have a nice bump but looking at myself at the moment it just feels like it will be hidden by the fat! Annoyingly I had been doing really well with losing weight and had dropped a fair bit, but I got married last month and since then and the honeymoon I've been a bit lax and I've put a bit back on before falling pg.

Hi KentCat. I was referred to a consultant due to my BMI, and was ever so nervous about it but shouldn't have been really. She was lovely and just said that they would book me in for a couple of growth scans and the glucose tolerance test, signposted me to my midwife for free slimming world membership if I wanted it, and advised me to take a small dose of aspirin (to prevent blood clots and pre-eclampsia I believe). She then booked to see me at 32 weeks where she then discharged me back to the care of my midwife because I haven't had any complications during pregnancy and my blood pressure has stayed normal for me.

Hi gumdrops, I am also taking apsrin too,
I am diabetic and really struggling with eating because a lot of foods don't stay down and have hardly any money due to my boss not paying me correctly, only thing I can really keep down is plain pasta, potatoes and beef...and some veg.

When I went to see a consultant they said not to loose weight which I am shocked about as I know plenty of women who lost weight in a healthy way during pregnancy, I am very keen to give weight watchers ago once my baby arrives in January!!

I am in Bristol xx

Louiseplusditi - I'm based in Bristol too.

Had my booking appointment last week and was asked if I wanted to be referred to a dietician due to my high bmi but I declined. I'm having another consultant-led pregnancy but I'm quite happy about that, as hopefully I'll be able to have more scans.

I'm also on aspirin and a higher dosage of folic acid due my first child being so small when they were born, despite being a day overdue.

Got my 12 week scan next Tuesday and am wishing the days away.

louiseplusditi · 31/10/2016 21:54

Awww wow! Do you go to st michaels or southmead?
I saw a dietician at st Michaels but she was rubbish! She showed me a picture of what your plate should look like and told me the obvious! That was a couple of months ago, I have to go every 2 weeks to see a diabetic nurse that deal with people who have diabetes and are pregnant. When I tell them the food I can eat and keep down they don't like it, but what can I do? Starve?

I had the higher dosage of folic acid too. Xx

Yes I've asked for St Michaels hospital as I had my daughter there.

I'm 12 weeks and BMI of 32. Joined SW last week as already piling on the pounds and didn't manage to shift all the weight I put on with DS. Not bothered about losing much ( a couple of pounds would be nice), it's more about not putting loads on like last time. Damage control really.

It'd be nice if I could drop to 29.9 so I don't need to have the GD test though.

Seeing my midwife next week so I'll tell her then.

amIUTD · 05/11/2016 12:01

I had no idea that they would be mean to people like this. I'm v early pregnant but hadn't really thought much about it as was NTNP and this happened much quicker than I thought. Now nervous for my first doctors appointment as I too am on the tubby side. Good luck everyone and don't let the "!£&es get you down.

AsWeTumbleToTheGround · 05/11/2016 12:53

My midwife was lovely at my booking apt. I basically apologised for being gay and she said I wasn't that fat and not to worry to much. She gave me some bumpf about healthy eating and that was that.
