I know it's going to sound a bit silly but this is our second pregnancy. We lost our first baby girl at the 7th month last year and this time it is really nerve wracking. We have to wait until mid march for the CVS and we thought we should book a week off to go and chill out somewhere.
i wanted to go to the carrabean but i can't get the vaccination against hepatitis a because i'm pregnant. i went before and didn't have to get any vaccins.
I spoke to nhs direct and they say it's fine as long as i am careful with the food.
Has anyone travelled whilst pregnant? What do you think?

I would go. You could do with the holiday.

We are planning to go somewhere exoctic in Arpil - I will be 28w pg. I have taken the decision as long as I am careful it should be OK. I have travelled all my life and (touch wood) never been seriously ill and have never been very careful.

Good luck with everything - it must be a horribly tense time for you - go somewhere lovely and chill out and do as little as possible. You won't be able to do nothing for the next 20 years!

thank you so much. I think you're right, it's all too much waiting and not knowing things are going to be fine. I'm also feeling very guilty about creating a risk.tooooooooo many questions........

Have a great time in april.

hi phanie,

interesting, similar story here. we also lost our first baby girl at the 7th month last year. we are pregnant again... hope all goes well for us!

anyway, im brazilian, i go to brazil very often and guess what, i dont take hepatitis vaccine when i go to brazil! i bet the gp would recommend me one if he knew where i travel... i use common sense wherever i go: dont eat from street vendors, drink mineral water... that kind of stuff.

Wish we could decide where to go!

I guess it is all about putting the risk in context. What happend the first time around was a tragedy and nothing you could have done could have changed that outcome.

We take immeasurable risks everyday that are porbably far higher than any you'd be exposing yourself to on holiday. IMHO the biggest risk a pg woman takes is getting in the car everyday or walking down the stairs.

i was also thinking about weighting the risks and i am not sure our noext-door take away is that safe either.
I'll drink bottled water and i'll avoid dodgy food.

dophus, if you want to wait a bit longer and stay around europe, croatia is beautiful and it's only two hours away. I have to take my hols in march.

jabuti, all the best with your pregnancy too. We have to be fine this time, we can't possibly be so unlucky twice (i know, easier said ...)

Go for it - the break will do you good.

We're going back to the Madives in may - i will be 25 weeks by then. Not looking forward to the journey but when i get there I know it will be worth it.

jabuti · 01/02/2007 16:51

hehehe, thats what my husband says. he is also a lover of numbers, so he keeps showing me the statistics... whatever works, as long as this baby stays im happy with it!

phanie · 01/02/2007 16:57

i think i'm booking today!

Did you book?

Phanie - we have been to Croatia a couple of times (in fact our last holiday was here). We have to go by mid April (30w insurance cutoff) and it won't be quite warm enough (we want a beach holiday this time). As DP can't go away in MArch it means it is during kids easter holidays and the prices are forrid everywhere.

Have a lovely holiday
