My Mother always told me I must as the family is full of twins. Has anyone else taken it out? and if so, with who?

I looked into it as my family is also full of twins. It would have cost something around£900 for a £5000 payout, which frankly seemed absurdly bad returns. There may be other schemes out there, I forget the one I investigated, so you could search more widely but have heard few people do them now as multiple births are so much more common with twins, IVF etc. Thankfully, first scan showed one lonely embryo. Good luck

Wow that's so expensive! Thanks for the tip, I'll do some searching and let you know the outcome just in case you need it another time. Congratulations! I can't wait to see the first scan

Hi MrsMcjnr,

I used to work in insurance and my best friend at work thought that his wife might be expecting a multiple birth with her second pregnancy. We looked into possible policies and he found one for about £100 which would have paid out £6000 (I think) if the scan had shown twins. he didn't bother in the end, and the scan showed just one anyway.

To be honest I would only take out a policy if there is a really big history of multiple births in your family (although the premium would then be higher because there's a higher chance the insurer would have to pay out).

Anyway, hope this helps a bit and good luck!

Cash plans (such as HSA) which give a generous maternity benefit for each child amoung other things might be a good option.
