Gender scan... told it was a girl. Thoughts please?

Photo attached, taken when I was exactly 15 weeks and 4 days although they argued that I may have been earlier despite my last 12 week scan being bang on.

They said there were two lines so it meant girl. Struggling to see it myself and want to hear what other people think. We've bought some girls clothes but I still feel slightly sceptical! Confused

What about paying for a 4D scan? They show things a lot more clearly

insan1tyscartching · 14/08/2016 14:19

At my scan I was told it was a girl, the sonographer pointed out the girly bits at a later scan they confirmed it was a girl. I don't remember what either scan looked like though. FWIW a friend was told boy at two different scans and had a girl so I always stuck to gender neutral clothes anyway as she had to take piles of stuff back to exchange.

PotteringAlong · 14/08/2016 14:21

Even without a scan, you've got a 50/50 chance. Just wait and find out when they're born!

Whatsername17 · 14/08/2016 14:23

Here's my scan again, cropped to remove my details.

TitaniasTits · 14/08/2016 14:42

When I had my first I was told girl, and she was, but the sonographer also admitted that when they get it wrong it's usually by mistaking a boy for a girl - because if they say "boy" it's because they've seen some definite boy bits, whereas some presumed girls turn out to be boys lying at the wrong angle to get a good look.

When I had my second the sonographer said "it's a boy. There's always a margin of error, but I'd be surprised if those little boy bits fell off." She was right - he's a boy.

I don't know OP but just as an aside, I have a DD and am 37 weeks pregnant now. Had growth scans with both at 36 weeks due to a blood disorder of mine. Haven't known either time what I was looking at, even when with DD sonographer said something like "oh, baby isn't being shy!" And her legs were apparently akimbo. Am I just super thick at this or is it much more obvious when it's a boy?

NovemberInDailyFailLand · 14/08/2016 16:33

It is probably more obvious with boys - my boys were 'correctly identified' at 12 weeks.

nennyrainbow · 14/08/2016 16:42

I had a scan at 15.5 weeks like you, OP, and was told girl, and they were right. I think they've got a pretty good idea by that stage. If they don't know because they can't see the genitals clearly, they will tell you that they don't know. This happened to a friend of mine. All 4 of my gender scans were correct. Apparently people do get told the wrong sex but I don't know anyone whom this has happened to.

Jodie1982 · 14/08/2016 17:37

That's a rubbish quality scan pic, for a private one. I really can't make it out.
Sorry you've had some sarky comments. Other women have posted similar and not got jumped on.

Jodie1982 · 14/08/2016 17:38

Oh and my brother was told he and partner were having a boy and a girl came out 😕

Whatsername17 · 14/08/2016 17:47

Have you got any other pictures?

Dixiechick17 · 14/08/2016 18:56

I assume it's the potty shot, so taken from underneath, that's what mine was at 17 weeks and the lines on the potty shot indicated a girl, and that's what I had. I can't tell if it's the same on yours, mine was clearer.

Dogsmom · 15/08/2016 10:00

I had a private sex scan with both of mine and was told they check several times from various angles and have to be as certain as they can be before announcing it, if there's any doubt they have to ask you to go back.

The scan photo isn't clear at all but it's only a snapshot and they'd have seen what they needed to see from the live scan, on my photos dd2 looks like a dog with a huge long snout obviously she looks like a normal baby in real life.

MrsJoeyMaynard · 15/08/2016 14:47

I think if you're unsure, the best thing to do is to ask the sonographer to look again at the genitals at the 20 week scan, or get another private gender scan when you're further along. Maybe stick to buying gender neutral stuff until you feel a bit more confident about it.

They do get it wrong sometimes - less likely if baby's been in a position where they've got a very good view of the genitals, and also I believe less likely if you've been told "boy", as the boy bits tend to be a bit more obvious.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 15/08/2016 15:19

As others have said you'll have the anomaly scan at 20 weeks and most hospitals will tell you the sex then after they've checked all is well.

Both DS and DD were obvious at the 20 week scan even though I didn't want to know the sex!

And you've got ages to buy things so no need to rush. And of course you can return things if you need just keep the tags on.
