Maternity pads

Hi all,

FTM here, just trying to get what I need for hospital bag.

Realistically what do I need in the way of pads? Are maternity pads generally different to normal sanitary pads?

Ie yesterday I picked up some maxi, extra heavy winged pads as I couldn't see anything in the shop that specifically said maternity?

Just wondering what's best to get

I found the disposable pants to be rubbish - definitely get big granny pants (I went 2 sizes up) and get twice as many as you think you will need as you may well will end up needing to dispose of them as you go along

Good luck!! Smile

Boots Maternity pads are good. A bit of an observation though. I ended up with 30 something stitches as I tore. Although I was healing well, even with one of those arse donuts, I was so uncomfortable - it really spoiled the first few weeks of having ds. I then switched to the Boot Ultra thin maternity pads and bingo. Not more discomfort. Think and bulky isn't always best.

Thick, not think. And what miracles said. Buy way more than you think you'll need.

I would get the maternity pads, when I had ds and when I had DD 2 weeks ago I find the maternity pads are thicker and softer, also get some black cotton big knickers.

My sister recommended Tena lady 😕 anybody used those afterwards? I've always used Kotex night time ones, even having to double up.

I used the always night time extra thick with wings when I had my daughter. I was going to use the same this time around. And I also used big cotton maxi knickers!! Cheap and cheerful but as many as possible.

The maternity pads I could not get on with. I would rather change a bit more often rather than having a brick between my legs and walking with my legs so far apart!!

Boots have maternity pads on 3 for 2 at the moment, how many do you think I should get? I was thinking 6 packets (so 60 pads) because I know my husband will be useless if I try and send him out for them after the baby is born.... Thanks!

Being a younger mum I hated the idea of maternity pads so my DM suggested getting always ultra super max night time pads .. They worked wonders and didn't feel as uncomfortable as the really thick maternity pads x

Pops, I used one pack of the thick ones but am now on my 9th pack of the ultra thin ones and ds is 4 weeks on Thursday- so lots! Also buy more breast pads than you think if breastfeeding x

I would buy 9 packs or so if on 3 for 2, they are inexpensive and that should get you through a couple of weeks. I used a whole pack getting from home to labour ward (waters broke early then spectacularly in the waiting room of labour ward!)
