Had a bit of SPD with ds1 (thankfully not nearly as badly as many poor mums who really suffer, but it was uncomfortable enough and caused a few problems). It started at around 28 weeks. I'm now pg with nº2 (yayy!) and am around 5 wks. Today I've been getting the familiar aches and stiffness in the groin that I had before and already I'm stiffening up and it's really sore. Can this really be the same thing, this early? Really? Surely not??

Another question, here in Spain the condition is unrecognised (last time the doc basically told me to live with it, this I gather is pretty common), so I want to know if there's any particular supplements, vits, exercises etc that help...or am I asking for the holy grail?!

thanks in advance wise ladies x

I was wheelchair bound from 6 months with DD because of SPD. Biggest help I found was satin sheets with satin PJs or nightie. Made turning in bed so much more comfortable. Hope that helps. Am ttc number 2 and dreading the inevitable SPD.

Hey Kitbit, I'm currently suffering with mild spd that I'm dreading getting any worse as it can be very painful at times. I'm 23 weeks though, and it's only just recently popped in and made it's big, dramatic entrance! I would of thought 5 weeks was far to early for it to be spd, could the pain possibly be your body preparing itself for baby? When I was in the very early stages of my pregnancy I often felt sore, crampy and very bloated which at times proved to be very painful. I was told that it was just my body's way of preparing itself for my baby and making room, stretching out and adjusting to the change. If you are worrying about it though please speak to your gp, am guessing you wont have a midwife yet as booking isn't usually until abut 10 weeks. If you feel yourself really worrying give your doctor a quick ring for peace of mind.
As for relief, their is no real magic cure unfortunately! I saw my midwife this weekend and she said to do the following things: Rest as much as possible, relax when you can, try and aviod walking up and down stairs as much as possible, when getting out of bed or a car etc keep both knees together so that your not seperating and aggrivating the bone further, also if it get's really bad ask for physio.
Hope this helps, take care hun

dh is liking the idea of the satin sheets!!! All in the name of science of course and thanks for the tips Lwatkins, maybe it´s just me being paranoid and waiting for it to get me. Seems to be better if I keep moving, it just seems to stiffen up if I sit down for long periods but thankfully there's not much chance of that with a 2 year old around!
thanks again x
