I'm 21 weeks prgnant and have been told 2 different theories from 2 different consultants on what is likely to happen to me this time round.

Anyoone else out there who has any experience on the type of treatment i may recieve, when it could start, the chances of me getting it again etc?

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated thank you

Docs thought I had it in my pregnancy with dd, but my LFT's were highish but bile salts were only slightly raised
So they suspected but never got antsy as levels stayed static, plenty of monitoring and blood tests and threatened 38 wk induction
dd born at 38 wks naturally, this tiem I'm 33 wks and itching is getting more noticeable.
I'm seeing m/w this week and will get tested to put mind at rest
Am planning a homebirth so if tests come back in anyway awkward.
eeeks but the risk is not worth arguing about

Today have woken up with lacerated legs and feet.
So have rung midwife for blood tests.
Here we go again.

Poor you Piffle. Get yourself treated with urso if you can.

nannyjo - when i had cholestasis i spent hours chatting on the itchymoms yahoo group. there are loads of women on there who seem to be total OC experts! Quite a few people tried to self-treat by modifying their diet. People who suffer from non-pregnancy cholestasis are advised to follow a particular diet, and it does make sense that reducing the strain on your liver / gallbladder etc by eating the right things could help.

I'll never forget the day I went out for my sister in law's birthday when I was right in the thick of the itchies. I had steak, a glass of red wine and chocolate pud. That night was the worst of my life - i thought i was going to rip my skin off. From then on, I tried to keep away from red meat, fatty foods, sugar (basically anything fun!). It didn't take the itching away completely but I certainly didn't get another attack like that one.

Am going to book myself an appointment with a nutritionist before i start trying for number 2 so i have a list of foods that I should avoid (as well as, i hope, some hints about things like milk thistle that might help my liver). Who knows if it will work? In a way i just want to feel that i'm trying to do something instead of just leaving it to fate...

pregnebrain, that sounds like it makes sense yes. I'm useless at saying no to foods i shouldn't have tho (never succesfully dieted in my life!!! ) but if the itching gets bad i could be tempted to try anything.

Poor you piffle, Have you had a test yet?? How are you now? I hope it was just a one off itch and not OC.

I'm 23 weeks now and itching is present but nothing like it was with DS so i think it's just regular preggas itch with an added bit of paranoia

Lat me know how you are piffle, thinking of you

unfortunately at only 29 wekks and i have got it again

I had a test at 27 weeks all was clear so i really got my hopes up this time.

My AST levels have gone to 75 already, they were only 44 at this stage with DS1 and i was induced 3 weeks after. I'm petrified that the same will happen again and i'm not sure what will happen. 32 weeks is too early to induce safely but what about the risks to baby if they don't.

My consultant 'doesn't believe' in the URSO maedicines and i don't tghink she'll try it.

I know i have every right to demand it but i'm worried that if i change what the professionals tell me to do that i would never forgive myself if the end result was bad.

has anyone been in this situation before??
