Is this worth the £500. Can i go somewhere and get it cheaper?

Seems like £500 that could be spent on stuff for the baby rather than testing something the NHS will test for!

Albeit that the harmony test has better accuracy results.

I did it at 10w and it was the best thing to do.
Also meant I got extra scans at 10 and 12w when i got my results.
this pregnancy was my last attempt after 5 miscarriages so I wanted to know...

i also did it at the FMC in harley street

Fratercula: this is incorrect and I'm alarmed that you'd post something so misleading.

The NHS tests referred to, such as amniocentesis & CVS, are invasive tests that carry a risk of miscarriage.

Harmony and similar are blood tests. There is zero risk to the foetus. NIPT stands for Non-Invasive Pre Natal Testing.

disasrronaut I think you've misread her post as, as far as I can tell, fratercula said exactly what you've just said...

divadee · 21/07/2016 18:44

I have booked my appt for Monday. Will update people if they want afterwards.

Disastronaut · 21/07/2016 21:41

Pottering - I've re-read and you're right, thanks for pointing that out.

Fratercula - apologies, my mistake.

PotteringAlong · 21/07/2016 21:56

It's ok - I spent ages going over it thinking I'd missed something Grin

Hope it goes well op, let us know Flowers

I was high risk 1:22 and had the Iona test done at Jimmies in Leeds. It was the best £300 we've spent for peace of mind. We had the test on a tuesday afternoon and results were back by the following Tuesday lunchtime. Would have been quicker but we couldn't get the sample posted on the same day. Came back as less than 1:1,000,000.

Thanks Pottering and Disastronaut - I did start a reply but lost it. Apologies if I phrased things in a convoluted way that could have been misread in a hurry. Just to reemphasise, both the Harmony test and NHS blood tests carry no risk to the baby.

Glad you've got an appointment Divadee, hope it goes well. Getting to see the baby on the screen at 10 weeks is hugely reassuring!

BeardMinge · 22/07/2016 13:13

I had the Harmony test at the FMC at about 15 weeks. It was important to me to have a more definitive answer, even though my risk came back as 1:1700 from the NHS combined test, so not massively high.

Main reasons for having it were my age (40), and a friend had recently had a baby with DS (despite being given a low risk figure from the combined test). Obviously there are many other conditions that your child can be born with that you can't test for, but for us this was one thing that we could have more certainty about, and we thought that being forewarned would be helpful.

If we have another child we will go straight to the FMC and not bother with the NHS tests.

Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley Street only charge £400 if you do it at 10 weeks. I am 11 weeks 1day and therefore they charge £500. Which is the same price as my IVF clinic 92 Harley Street. I booked £399 with Ultrasound direct in milton keynes for Monday. So hopefully the results ate quick as we're not telling anyone until then.
