Anyone else been prescribed medication for nausea without vomiting?

Haven't posted on MN since I had my DS a couple of years ago. I'm now 7 weeks pregnant with no. 2 and have been having severe nausea (pretty much all day, every day without any let-up) since 5 weeks, but no vomiting as yet.

It's been so much worse than anything I had when pregnant with my DS that I saw my GP to ask if he could suggest anything in addition to the usual (ginger, eating little and often, blah blah blah) and he said if I'd tried all the lifestyle/dietary changes and they weren't helping, he would prescribe me cyclizine. I was pretty surprised as I've only heard of women with HG who can't keep anything down being prescribed medication, and that's definitely not the position I'm in. I filled the prescription and took a tablet to help me get through a work meeting, but I'm torn as to whether to take it more regularly.

On the one hand, it definitely worked and allowed me to function, whereas lately I've been feeling so sick that I can barely get off the sofa and DH has been doing basically all childcare and housework etc. On the other hand, I'm not dehydrated and I can keep food down if I force myself to eat, although I feel miserably nauseous and quite depressed about the thought of feeling like this for another month (it's so bad that I'm finding it very hard to leave the house).

Has anyone else been prescribed anti-sickness drugs in pregnancy for nausea alone? I have literally never heard of this before, and was a bit shocked at how easily the GP suggested it. Should I take them, since they've been prescribed and would help me function more normally or just grit my teeth and try to ride it out?

Disclaimer: I realise how lucky I am not to be vomiting (yet), but the nausea is like nothing I've ever experienced before, and I've been pregnant twice (one successful, one miscarriage).

Been little bit sick but nothing compared to usual so that's good

Will see how next few days go.

Wish I had done this earlier but as have never been preg I didn't know what was normal or not

And mine wasn't normal

See mdwife tomorrow for 1st time

LightTripper · 25/08/2016 14:11

I know - I didn't get any help in my first p/g as it took me a while to realise it was beyond normal pg sickness, and then the first pill I tried didn't work, and by that stage I felt so awful I couldn't summon the energy to get to the GP. It really helps if you know in advance you have to get on top of it. Still, better late than never - glad it has made a big difference for you!

How many weeks are you now? Hope you get a nice m/w!

LightTripper · 25/08/2016 14:12

P.S. brace yourself, the first appointment is very long and boring - they have huge amounts of paper to fill in!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/08/2016 16:01

I thought she would have more understanding Over how nurotic I will be as taken 5 private attempts and 10yrs to get this far

Hello ladies! All gone quiet. I just wanted to let you know I had my gender scan today and I'm having a girly!!

Posted too soon, how are you all? Really hoping you've all seen some improvement xxx

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2016 19:16

How lovely Lynsey. Pink 💓💓

Feel better. Tablets finally kicking in tho now worried that somethings gone wrong as no sickness

Neurotic mummy to be here 😳😳

LightTripper · 29/08/2016 19:36

Don't worry *Blondes, I'm just the same whenever my symptoms get better. Usually it's temporary (sorry!!) But maybe you've just finished with it, or the drugs are really really working! That would be amazing!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2016 19:39

I actually want to be sick /retching again

Can't believe I'm saying that

Been so il past 4/5w and each day would think fuck this

and now stopped and want it back

Ahhhhhhhhhh

LynseyH · 29/08/2016 20:11

Haha that's totally normal so don't worry.
How far along are you now? It was only about 11 weeks when I tried without and was ok. I felt hideous before that. I then bought a doppler after my 12 wk scan to keep an ear on the heartbeat and then my gender scan today has helped keep me sane. Look for milestones and aim for them and you'll be just fine xx

KateTheShrew · 29/08/2016 20:36

Aw, Lynsey, that's lovely news Grin

Blondes, so glad to hear you're feeling better - do NOT wish the sickness back!! You know it's the tablets making you feel better, so enjoy it and don't worry.

I had a couple of good days last week after my scan. Even managed to go into town and back on the train for my Drs appointment on Thursday, which gave me confidence that I can get out and about if I need to without actually collapsing!

Still not great though -- every time I have a couple of good days in a row, I have another where I feel dreadful, and there's still periods everyday where I feel pretty grim. I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow, so I think either it will clear off soon or I'll be stuck with it for the duration

It just struck me today though, that I've been basically inactive and eating mostly crap (diet consisting largely of shreddies, coke and extra strong mints) for nearly two months Shock, so it's possible that at this point that's part of the reason I'm feeling so icky, so I'm going to try to remedy that: I got out of the house twice today (quick walk in the morning and trip to tesco this afternoon), and made sure I ate some fruit and vegetables and took a pregnacare to boost the vitamins. Hopefully this will all help...

kate I read on another thread the other day that pregnacare makes some ladies feel worse. Not personal experience but thought I'd pass it on.

Thank you! I'm totally amazed am but super happy! Already have her name sorted! Xx

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2016 20:57

Yes I know a lady who felt awful on pregcare tablets

I live off bagels - chicken Kiev and beans (crave it) and jackets and pasta

I'm 10w this thur

LynseyH · 29/08/2016 21:00

I reckon the tablets are helping you blondes but if you really wanted to be sure, don't take any?! Big risk though as you could feel terrible. Do you have your scan date through?

KateTheShrew · 29/08/2016 21:04

Thanks, Lynsey, yes I've been avoiding pregnacare up til now because I'd heard that too (I think it's the iron that does it?) but I had some sitting in the cupboard so thought I'd give it a try. Took it straight after dinner (so on a full stomach) and so far it doesn't seem to have made me feel any worse.

Wow, quick work on the name! DH and I have talked about names, but it just ends up in a competition to see who can suggest the most ridiculous, unsuitable name Blush I think we'll have more luck when we find out if it's a boy or girl.

OP posts:
LynseyH · 29/08/2016 21:20

Haha I got so annoyed with my partner as he said no to every suggestion I made but only gave me really silly names if I asked him. We decided on a boys name and a girls name so was set before we knew what we were having. You'll hit on something you like, maybe even after you see babies face for the first time. No rush!
A midwife said to me that most 'hormonal complaints' settle by 19 weeks (i mentioned my terrible headaches). So if the sickness/nausea isn't better yet, maybe your gonna have to slog it out til then? Sorry for being the bearer on potentially bad news :-/

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2016 21:31

Lovely mw has got me a reassurance scan this week and waiting for 11-14w date

Prob be 12w she said

LynseyH · 29/08/2016 21:35

Aw that's great. You'll feel so much happier after you've seen your little one Smile

KateTheShrew · 29/08/2016 21:37

It better have gone by 19 weeks as I am scheduled to be the worlds oldest, most haggard-looking, pregnant bridesmaid at my friend's wedding around then!!

Great news about the scan, Blondes, it makes such a difference to your mood when you're feeling so ill to actually see that there's a little person in there.
