I know there's a lot of debate around this, but I'd like to know what choice people made and why you personally made it . .

TIA

www.gov.uk/government/publications/pertussis-laboratory-confirmed-cases-reported-in-england-2016

Here is the latest data on confirmed cases
iirc the UK introduced vaccination in 2011 although I believe the US may have been doing it for longer

freetrampolineforall · 19/07/2016 19:27

I almost died of it as a baby - my stoic ex hcp elderly mum still gets upset to think of it. It is the likely cause of teenage epilepsy in me - they found scars on my brain likely to be caused by whooping cough attacks as a child. Mum still gets upset remembering me fitting.
So unless you have a good medical reason not to, you should have it.

ps2304 have you got any proof of your claims here?

Also, I know I'm being pedantic here, but EVERYTHING is a chemical...

I had the vaccine last time I was pregnant, I'll have it again this time. Not a chance I'd be risking my baby catching a preventable and potentially fatal disease.

CmereTilliTellYa · 19/07/2016 19:35

Did you read that report on your link AveEldon? Cases on the rise in 2016 and 14 of the 16 deaths of babies since 2012 were in mothers who were unvaccinated. Seems to make the case for vaccination to me.

AveEldon · 19/07/2016 20:11

Yes I've read it
If there wasn't a case for vaccination they wouldn't be offering it

It comes down to what you perceive your personal risks to be
I have chosen not to have it

Others have chosen to have it. I don't think their choice is wrong/misguided. I think it's up to them.

I had the vaccine yesterday. Didn't even feel it and no side effects or soreness for me. Today my arm feels no different to every other day so I'm pleased with that.

Decision for having it? Before I was pg I avoided injections like the plague. Had to put my big girl pants on and it's been fine. Baby doesn't make the decision to be susceptible to whooping cough so I figure I need to do my bit x

I said no at 20 weeks for whooping cough jab but ended up having it today at 36 weeks just because winter in approaching and it can only do more good than harm surley x

Darkstar4855 · 24/09/2018 19:55

I am a doctor and had mine at 24 weeks. We had several confirmed cases of whooping cough amongst children locally over the summer and my friend’s nephew is currently in intensive care after catching it at six weeks old (his mum hadn’t had the jab). The vaccine has been around for years and is very safe. Babies are far more at risk from whooping cough than they are from the vaccine.

Pepper123123 · 24/09/2018 23:33

I had mine last week.

As a baby I had whooping cough and my mother tells me it was terrifying. She was so pleased to know the vaccine is offered.

artio0 · 24/09/2018 23:56

I had the jab at around 33 weeks pregnant which should pass my immunity onto baby and protect it in the first two months after being born before it can get the jab. I got it because whooping cough can be deadly to a young baby and seems to be around quite a bit (I'm living in the UK) and obviously I'd like to minimise that risk for my baby. I had a sore arm for a couple of days but no other side effects.

moomoo85 · 25/09/2018 09:35

I had it with my son last pregnancy and again this time. I live in an area with very low uptake for vaccinations generally and where whooping cough has been known to circulate.
