Sling for newborn in Winter

Any recommendations?

I'm due 14th December and DD will be nearly 2 then. My house has about 15 steps leading up to it ( its like a staircase ) I don't mind bumping DD up and down the steps in the pram but wouldn't want to with a newborn.

I won't have the strength to get a double pram up and down the steps so I'm planning on having baby in a sling, but I need one that will be suffice for winter, also advice on how to dress a newborn in a sling? Wouldn't want them to overheat but wouldn't want them to be cold either.

DD will want to walk more by the time she's nearly 2 ( but I assume will still get tired and need a rest or a nap ) so I plan to swop them around, dd walking/baby in pram. DD in pram/baby in sling.

I just want to make sure I get s good sling for the newborn. I've read a lot of different things so thought I'd get real opinions :)

Your best bet is to get to a sling library if you can and try a few or get some advice. I've used a stretchy wrap for newborn days which was great but required some practice. Now I use a Connecta which you can also use from newborn days if baby is big enough. Connecta's are very easy to use and last ages.

I second the sling library your local children's centre should have details of your local one.
I had a moby stretchy wrap and my ds was a winter baby. I just wore the wrap and ds under my coat when he was still small with a wooly hat on his head which meant I could feel if he was too warm / cold.

Another vote for Moby wrap under a large coat (either maternity one or borrow one from your OH or cheap one from Primark)

Sounds daft, do the sling library's have fake babies you can practise slings and wraps on?

I'm going to have a quick look online at a Moby Wrap, I had to buy a larger coat when pregnant with DD, I'm only short so my bumps are huge!

Baby in coat with you, make sure feet are warm - babygro. If really cold maybe velour babygro. I used my DD's pram suit in the sling once - snowing - most of the time she was toasty in vest/babygro.

You can also get/make if crafty a zip in panel to make any zip up coat bigger. This still works nicely for me with my 11 mo. Slings are much easier in winter than high summer!

Just make sure there is lots of room for little feet if they're in a baby grow, if it's snug it can pull up on their feet and hold them in an unnatural position. Or go with socks and trousers.

I've never needed a special coat for wearing little ones, I've always found they're snug enough next to me while I have my coat open (and warm clothes on them, obviously).

Socks vanished very frequently for me but I was paranoid about babygro length. Rain (and wind) is the main reason for being able to close them in a lightish coat if it's transport rather than recreation. DH's coats are smaller than mine so no help there!

Ha, I'm extremely vertically challenged so forgot that normal people are often as big/bigger than their DH!
