Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
//sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
//www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
//cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Early days but had a MUCH better evening yesterday. Was even able to help a bit with bath time and dinner rather than just getting immediately horizontal and groaning over a bowl all evening.

Of course I was then an idiot and didn't get up/eat immediately this morning, so threw up this morning instead. But still, that is just me being stupid.

Feeling quite optimistic about the Cyclizine. Even though I know the sickness will probably get worse from here, if the Cyclizine can continue to take it down this much then I'll only have a few weeks of really unbearable time, rather than a few months! Am going to try to stick to 2 tablets a day for now (one to get me home and one to cover dinner/going to bed) so I can up it to 3 as things get worse.

Hope everybody else is doing OK. Soooo happy to have aircon at work. Think it is supposed to cool down a bit over the next few days hopefully?

LT xx

LightTripper So glad to hear that things are more bearable. But don't feel, if cycizine works less well as time goes on, that they can't offer you other meds. As I''m sure you know, that's the 'first line of defence' drug, and been used for many decades safely for Hyperemesis, but there are other options. Glad to hear you could help with bathtime.
icklekid Glad baby is on a recliner in there. Grin
Vixx My mmc was many years ago - my daughter's at university now, would you believe it's that long since I suffered this horror - and I do feel for you, going through all the anxiety. The chances are hugely on your side.

Hello all.

The heat is making everything worse. I'm constantly retching, vomited trying to load the dishwasher and ended up in tears trying to put the bins out. I'm on maternity leave and have absolutely nothing to do except very basic house jobs, and dh is having to sort dinners again because I can't deal with the sight or smell of the fridge.

I also didn't sleep until about 3am last night, so feel hideous today. Fed up.

36 weeks today. With the placenta issues I was expecting baby to come early, so the one good thing at the moment is that it looks like I'll be able to go to term (good for baby, less so for me, I selfishly can't wait to not be pregnant)! Scan tomorrow to confirm baby's size/weight but I feel like everything is ok. It is quite a relief.

Why does the heat magnify smells so much?! I'm going to the cinema with a friend at 4. I will enjoy the air con, ask for a empty popcorn bucket in case I vomit and I am considering getting a ice slushy to see how that stays down.

Hugs and flowers to everyone else. Hope you're all surviving. Flowers

special totally get the inability to do anything feeling- sat staring at loads of ds toys all over the floor and know a load of washing is upstairs and needs to be put away. Have no motivation to do either. Dh either gets food that can be put in the oven and a timer set or has to sort himself . However cinema (air con!) And ice slushy sounds like an excellent plan!

lucinda yep think baby is probably good and settled again. Actual midwife appointment was over very quickly and all fine- measuring big but no real concerns. She was very dismissive of discharge and said very normal and not to worry. Why couldn't midwife on phone have said that??!

light I think some people find having something like a breakfast bar you can snack on before you get out of bed can help with nausea first thing. It's definitely a bit cooler today but still pretty hot! Good excuse to eat ice lollies though!

Vixx so glad that the cyclizine is helping you!

ickle fingers crossed for you then. Not sure about working from home. I might do on Friday but actually feel worse in the house (no air con) at the moment!

Light glad you're ok. I'm on 3 cyclizine a day- make are you up your dose of you need to.

Special so sorry you're suffering. I find that having a shower and sitting with wet hair helps cool me down.

Horrendous food incident today- ordered a very bland sandwich at work. It had a massive lump of bacon in it (I am vegetarian and only 'do' bland food at the moment so it was doubly bad). I still feel sick thinking about it now, it tasted awful! DH got a bit stroppy with the caterers and they gave me a new sandwich when I came back from he loos, but I couldn't face food after it Blush

Has the heat put everyone into overdrive? Hoping ot being so quiet is because we are all collapsed from heat not hg!

Don't like to disappoint/ scsre by not doing an early morning post...

rae sorry to hear about your sandwich can totally imagine that putting you off food- as lunch is my only meal of the day I would have cried! Hope dh was understanding as well as rightly kicking up a fuss!

So yesterday I go out (pregnancy pilates) and ds screams so much I have to come home, tonight I go over to babysit a friends older children (ridiculously easy) and ds is very happy but doesn't go to sleep until 8.45- normally 7.30.out cold! So tomorrow morning should be interesting...

Thinking of all those struggling with this heat- humidity feels worse tonight although don't think it's been as hot!

Morning all!!! Guess what?! Have reached pink castle finally 😊
DD2 born yesterday by csec, a very decent 7lb. We're both doing fine. They offered toast as pre op first food, i couldn't think of anything worse after 8m of toast!! So had lovely fruit platter instead. Last night had amazing 3 course meal (I'm in a private room so food was lovely) and now eagerly awaiting breakfast with sleeping DD2 lying peacefully on me.

THANK YOU to you all for getting me through this horrendous pregnancy, at times you were the only thing keeping me sane as no one in the real world really understood. A big special thanks to Lucinda for running these threads, you really are a star 🌟

Many sympathies to all of you suffering today, and esp in this heat.

Much love to all x

Horray mrsmonkey so pleased dd2 is here and 7lb is perfect! So pleased you were able to enjoy a delicious dinner how brilliant! I may have just shed a tear...clearly getting more emotional as I draw closer! Hope c section recovery is ok.

Waves at amysmummy thanks for popping back so sorry to hear about reflux...I wonder if there is any correlation between hg and reflux as seens several mums have found it to be the case...dreading this if so as reflux is so hard and I was anxious about feeding last time as it was! 😣

It's definitely cooler here today with a bit of a breeze which is much appreciated! Ds us having a great time playing in and outside...so pleased extension is finished so we can enjoy just in time for all this gorgeous weather! Whilst I sit back and relax...not eating morning or eve does seem to have helped get sickness under control again and is ok as long as I don't try and do too much as not got a lot of energy!

Aaahh, massive congratulations mrsmonkey. Like ickle I am a little bit emotional about this. I hope the section recovery is smooth and that DD2 settles well. Enjoy every second of those newborn cuddles whilst eating & drinking whatever your heart desires.

Have very little energy for posting much else, end of two very big events at work so having been sent home I'm now in feet elevated position to try and get my humongous feet & legs to de-swell!

That is amazing news mrsmonkey. So, so pleased for you! Enjoy the lovely cuddles (and the lovely food).

Hi amysmummy, sorry about your DD's reflux. Hope it settles soon.

Sounds like your DS is giving you the run around ickle. It's been cooler here today too, horrah!

Sleepy hope you're getting some rest now.

You're all going to think I'm crazy, but I'm meeting a personal trainer tonight. She specialises in antenatal exercise and I've asked her to show me ways to build up my strength again when I'm having slightly better days. Not going to attempt cardio- I know it will make me throw up!

Star Flowers Grin BrewCake Congratulations on 7lb baby. I am so glad the thread helped you through dismal times.
amysmummy Lovely to hear from you. Trending??? Hyperemesis a trend on Mumsnet, Oh dear! Wink 'Try this ground breaking new diet'. So nice of you to encourage people currently suffering. Sorry to hear of reflux. I know Reebok's baby has that too, and it isn 't easy to deal with.
Rae Oh no, about such a night, and icklekid Oh no, poor you about that sandwich.
SpecialStains You poor thing. You must be very fed up.
SleepymrsE Sympathies over swollen legs. The heat must make that so much worse, along with Hyperemesis.

rae definitely not crazy but I am jealous! I only managed 1 antenatal gym session which I loved last pregnancy. Doing physio exercises, pilates and generally strengthening my back is great for mental wellbeing. Hope you enjoy it!

sleepy hope it's cooler for you and you've had some deswelling success!

mrsmonkey thinking of you and middle of the night feeds- I imagine they are the worst if reflux bad because what I can cope with in the day is totally different to exhausted at night! Hope your dh/dp can help when your home.

Well you would think being cooler wpuld help sleep but apparently not. Had a long dsy yesterday- made worse by mil coming over to help but not taking ds out...could have done with the break but never mind. Eventually escaped to friends house where they all had fun in paddling pool without any clothes on! Oh to be 2 again! Sickness not good last night/this morning...

Ok, so I've had a nightmare. Fell off a step backwards last night, banged my head (hard, it really flipping hurt) and then didn't feel baby move for 2 hours. Called 111 just wanting advice but got sent to A&E. I'm fine, baby is fine, but we got home at 4am 😱 so I'm exhausted and very pukey today. Poor DH had to go to work for a meeting but I called in and asked to take the day as annual leave. Worst day of holiday ever!

ickle sorry that your sickness is bad too. Sounds like your MIL needs a hint about taking DS to the park or something!

Vixxfacee · 22/07/2016 13:18

Rae! You really need to take it easy. You are doing to much. Im glad you called in sick

She is normally really good and has offered to come over more in the holidays which is really kind. Going to learn from yesterday and suggest something for them to do eg. Could you take these library books back with ds... she is lovely and don't want to be ungrateful but I definitely needed a nap (having just woken up from one!)

rae so sorry about ladder incident but glad you got checked out and can rest today. I'm sure your in pain so do take ot easy.

RaeSkywalker · 22/07/2016 16:48

*Vixxi I know, I've learned my lesson now. Think I'm going to have to accept my weakened state until I can sort it out at the gym next year, and beating weaker means no carrying or lifting! I felt so guilty about how I might have hurt the baby last night, I can't do that again.

ickle that's a good plan, give her a bit of structure. Would she take him swimming or out for another adventure for the day to give you some proper time to rest?

It is flipping boiling here! DH booked the afternoon off work so we went straight upstairs a nap, but I've had to come back downstairs as the heat up there was making the HG much worse. Really surprised, I thought I was supposed to be cooler today. The only one who isn't exhausted from last night's drama is the baby, who has been happily kicking a way all day (thank goodness). I suppose we should get used to being exhausted whilst the little one is ok! Grin

So hot and stressed today especially as someone has lit a bonfire that smells of burning tar and has been stinking out the house for four hours, don't know where it is coming from. Have had to shut all windows and sat by a fan Angry grrrr
Oh is out and four year old keeps calling me up the stairs for every reason going, she just can't settle to sleep these days.....

LucindaE · 22/07/2016 21:35

Rae My goodness. So sorry to hear that! Your poor head. That sounds dramatic. It is quie difficult to hurt a baby in the uterus, they are so well cushioned. A woman I knew slipped when standing on a chair and hit it with her belly when eight months pregnant - baby was fine. Rest all you can.
icklekid Sorry sickness is bad. Freshbreadandfaith How foul, a tarry smell of burning. Much sympathy over that and four year old being in a mood for service.
I hope Jodders Vixxfacee and Lighttripper and everyone is OK?

fresh a bonfire in this heat...I am furious on your behalf!!! How selfish as no one can have windows open and the smell of tar will be around for days. Urgh just unbelievably inconsiderate. 😤

rae sorry it's not been cooler- it was here in the morning but warm again by eve as rain forecast never came!

So dh plan for today is to paint living room ceiling...he was so stroppy painting extension because he had had enough but hoping that a small room should be easy and quick...I am refusing to do skirting boards as just cant get comfortable sitting on the floor plus smell of gloss+hg isn't good. Hope everyone is doing ok

Hi everyone!

I lost the link to this new thread, but looks like I found it just in time - happy news!

Congratulations, MrsMonkey & Snow! How lovely!

Been catching up on the thread. Sorry to hear of insensitively timed husband nights out & awful bosses.

The 'I HAVE DRUGS!' made me laugh - been there! Congrats on the baby 😊

How has everyone been coping in the heat? I nearly passed out a yoga on Monday & narrowly avoided throwing up. Feels like progress though as I've not been sick at all in a whole week!! These pills are brilliant, although, definitely understand the side effects you were all speaking of, not nice.

In my week of feeling better I have turned into super woman. Have supervised builders digging up the entire patio, have built a garden bed, by hand, by myself (including banging in all the posts with a hammer), have levelled & prepped the ground for turf, prepared fences for painting (DH did the painting), marked out all the raised beds... It goes on. What do they put in that medicine??
