Hi folks

Just wanted to ask your advice. I am 33+3 weeks gone, and I'm starting to find working an incredible strain. I'm really feeling tired, my pelvis is getting really painful, and I'm getting almost no sleep. Welcome to the club, eh? My job is pretty low stress, especially since they've been winding me down I think, for the past couple of weeks since there is no-one to cover me while I'm on Mat leave.

Anyway, my actual question...I have a doctor's appointment on Monday morning, do you think I would be out of line to ask for a sick line for my last two weeks? I'm finishing on Feb 9th for mat leave, but that seems like a hell of a long way away! I've never asked for a sick line before, so am really crapping it at the thought! But on the other hand, I don't see how I can keep going!

god know, thats what I did. In fairness I did have quite bad SPD but if your company is big enough to cope without you and you are not landing anyone in it workwise I would go for it.

KezzaG · 24/01/2007 16:29

Or even NO not KNOW - and I am not even pregnant!

Noodlekitty · 24/01/2007 16:31

No, shouldn't be landing anyone in it, As long as everything is organised by the end of this week, which it pretty much is. Somebody is taking over some of my duties, but he's well briefed, and everything is up to date. As I said, I haven't been given any new work recently, TBH, am twiddling my thumbs a bit!

Just think how lovely it will be resting at home knowing you are being paid for it and not eating into mat leave.

Noodlekitty · 24/01/2007 16:34

Lol...I can hardly bear to think about it...I wouldn't even last til the end of this week!

If you go on sick leave due to pregnancy related illness your employer can insist your maternity leave start on that date (after the 28 week mark)- so you would be starting your maternity leave early effectively.

sazzybee · 24/01/2007 16:59

I have a horrible feeling that if you take sick leave any time after 11 weeks before your due date, it counts as maternity leave.

No - just checked on the DWP website - it's 4 weeks. DWP maternity pay But the policy at my company is 11 weeks so check your work policy first - it would be horrible to cut into your precious maternity leave unexpectedly.

You have my every sympathy though - I'm in exactly the same position (in fact I'm 33+2!). They're being really good about letting me work from home though so I'm going to try and keep going as long as I can.

Noodlekitty · 24/01/2007 20:00

I've checked the policy at my work, and its four weeks...thank goodness. So I'd be ok for the two weeks I'm trying to get, since I was going to stop just before the 4 week cut-off anyway. Oddly enough, I'm stopping then because I didn't want to go and get a doctor'sline to be able to continue working up til my due date...lol...I hate doctors obviously! or at least I hate asking them for anything!
