Tell me about how clean the water stays in water births...

Hi - I'm pg with DC2 and like the idea of a water birth... But I'm also worried about how "clean" it will be.

In my first labour i know I let out more than the baby Blush and it was quickly sorted but i don't know how this all works in a water birth. My worry is sitting in a mucky pool with DP having to fish things out of it!

Thanks

I have had. 3 water births and yes it is messy with blood and fluid in the pool
But the pool is that big you hardly notice, also i think i pooed but the midwife sieved it up. Go for it!

I think it just depends on the woman. I had a water birth with my baby and the water only changed colour once she was in my arms, I picked her straight up and as you can see we were both clean :)

We were out of the pool about 2 mins after the photo was taken, I suspect we would of had blood on us had we stayed in any longer

( the two white bits in the pool are the lights reflecting )

Pah. Filthy

All temporary pictures of water births I see look clean. Mine however wasn't. I didn't do one big poo, it was like iron filings and therefore impossible to get out with a sieve!

Temporary = the (obviously)

I don't think that child birth is ever clean. Mostly it's a matter of mess containment. I didn't fancy a water birth, but imagine that the mess is contained in the pool.
