Your cervix can't close up after slightly dialating, can it?

Prob really stupid question, and not something I would have ever doubted before but getting really paranoid and hormonal that am getting further away from giving birth, not closer to it. Was 1 cm dialated at time of sweep last thurs, show on fri, due yesterday but still no baby!

My cervix fully dilated when I was in labour with dts, dt1 was born vaginally (sp) as soon as she was delivered my cervix closed within 60 seconds, so dt2 had to be delivered by C section.

Is this your first or second baby? Your cervix never closes completely after the first labour which is probably why you were 1cm last week. The fact that you've had a show is a really positive sign though, something is obviously happening! Also remember that full term is 37-42 weeks, so you're not really overdue yet and the baby will come!

Oh itsazoo, I'm sorry to see you still here. I've been watching the annoncements. Daisymoo is right you cervix doesn't fully close and this is no.3 for you isn't it? You sound like you are following as I did with dd, it's easy to get your hopes up after a sweep and show. it will happen soon....... not much use I know but it is true. xxx

Yes, tis number 3. Have dd6 and dd11. And feel far to young to have -and cope with- 3 kids! Got midwife due any minute, so been cleaning house like a mad woman. (Why do I think she'll care if there's a spider's web on the landing?)
Will have another sweep and hopefully find out if cervix has progressed. Thanks for advice, know I sound like an impatient cow, but it feels like am under a lot of pressure to get this baby right. May have something positive to report back soon!

Good luck, itsazoo, hope the mw has good news for you (and seriously doubt she'll notice cobwebs, lol!)

My sil did start dilating after induction, then she stopped, and started closing again. She ended up having a c/s. Probably not what you wanted to hear - sorry.

Midwife eventually came, did a sweep and said that I am TWO cm's now-3 when she stretches! Progress at least. Poor woman kept on apologising for hurting me. Tried to explain that if I was worried about the pain I wouldn't be asking her to do something that would hopefully lead to childbirth! She advised me to go for long walk (done), eat curry (had some chilli jam-will that do? Seem to remember chillis worked for you, Lulumama) and castor oil (? Thought that was frowned upon). Now having tightnings, but not sure if contractions or braxton hicks. Booked for induction in 8-10 days.Really hope this works first!

Anything happen overnight, itsazoo?
Did you ever get your cat net - I was thinking of you this morning as I was greeted by a dead rabbit when I got down stairs. Blooming cats!!

itsazoohere · 25/01/2007 14:08

SO chuffed to think a dead rabbit makes you think of me! . Cat net not bought yet, but no sign of baby yet either .
How's yr trickle? Turned into a gush?
I had vague contractions all night-then it all stopped. DDs are being horrible-had day off school to play wih snow, but there is none.
Trying to source some castor oil as midwife reccommended it-my,taking that'll be fun.

Lol, itsazoo, sorry . No gushing, still just damp, and no contractions. Good luck with the castor oil, hope it's worth the taste!
