I'm 8wks pregnant with DC4 and absolutely sick as a dog, there is no set time of day when it happens, it's 24/7. I've been going to bed early every night so I can sleep to get away from it. Eating helps even though I don't feel like eating but the effort involved in eating makes me feel even sicker.

Yes, I'm aware of how whiny I sound Grin

My kitchen stinks, my living room stinks, my bathroom stinks, my hallway stinks and my bedroom stinks. DH assures me they don't but my nose tells me they do. I'm supposed to be cooking dinner for the DC right now and I can't because I can't face going in the kitchen and turning on the oven. As soon as it heats up its like I can smell every single meal that's ever been cooked in it. I've thrown up so much that I've stripped the top layer off my tongue, it's got that horrible stinging burnt feeling you get if you drink a hot drink too quickly.

Has anyone got any suggestions for ways to combat sickness? It was never this bad in my previous pregnancies.

Hello Ereni I'm so fussy! I don't even like fizzy water, I been trying to drink little and often with sugar free squash and try to eat little and often. It's crazy cos I feel so hungry but when I start eating I feel almost sick/really full!
I have to see a specialist midwife/doctor as I am diabetic but going to ask if sugar free sweets are allowed cos I sometimes crave sweet things and hoping it'll help with sickness feeling. xxx

EreniTheFrog · 12/07/2016 08:19

Artificial sweeteners aren't great for anyone, but am guessing those sugar-free hard candies would be diabetes-safe. Good luck! And as everyone says, it will pass (eventually)

louiseplusditi · 12/07/2016 09:04

Thanks Ereni :-) since starting my new job yesterday I don't feel as sick xx

Just to update.

Out of hours wouldn't prescribe over the phone and gave me an appointment to go to the walk-in at 11.30pm. I said I couldn't as would have three DC in bed at that point. The doctor rang me instead and said they wouldn't prescribe the medication either over the phone or face to face, it will have to come from my own GP.

I saw the MW this week for my booking in. I asked her about a prescription as I am still nauseous 24/7 and throwing up several times a day. She said I'd need to see my GP.

I rang my GP and was told that the next available appointment is next Friday. I said I can't wait that long so they squeezed me in as an "emergency". GP has refused to prescribe anything because "this is a normal part of pregnancy" and they prefer to remain as hands off as possible because it's better for the baby that I don't take unnecessary medication. I should be relieved as it's a sign the pregnancy is progressing. It'll pass in good time. In the meanwhile, have I tried nibbling ginger biscuits and avoiding strong smells? Also, for future reference, morning sickness is not an emergency. Emergency appointments are for people who are actually poorly.

So yes. That.

Oh no ubercorn that's not good for you!
Thankfully my sickness has passed. I didn't get morning sickness I just felt constantly sick from about midday until the evening and had a parter who didn't really care/understand!!

I hope it goes away for you soon and especially in this heat!! I have felt so funny all day long with the heat and hope it passes soon ! Xx

I have a further update.

I had some bleeding so was referred to hospital. Baby is absolutely fine and they checked me over while I was there. I had ketones in my urine, low blood pressure and had lost half a stone since my booking in only two weeks earlier.

I've been diagnosed with hyperemisis gravidarum and given anti-emetic medication. I burst into tears when the consultant said "you can't go on like this" followed by "Let's get you a prescription". He's going to write to my GP to tell them that I am allowed them on repeat prescription for as long as I need and is baffled as to why my GP wouldn't prescribe them in the first place.

So for anyone suffering, if you get dismissed and told it's "just" morning sickness don't give up. Get a second opinion. I didn't realise the full extent of how miserable I've been feeling until I got offered a solution.

Now fingers crossed the medication works! Grin

Oh Ubercorn, that is such good news (not the bit about the bleeding though). I had HG in both my pregnancies, and several hospital admissions. It was grim, but at least my GP believed me (the second time I was pg he prescribed me antiemetics before I even needed them). His partners didn't and would not prescribe anti-Es or ring hospital, but my GP believed me. I found out afterwards that he's married to a midwife.

Stegolego · 30/07/2016 19:12

Uber glad to hear you've got something sorted out, and a bit of compassion. Please seriously consider complaining about your GP: it was totally unprofessional to dismiss you as 'just' morning sickness and 'not an emergency'

Ubercorn · 30/07/2016 19:16

My GP didn't even examine me, the consultant said she should have done a urine dip and BP at the very least to check for signs of dehydration. DH wants me to write to the practice manager and make a complaint.

I am horrified by your GP. Am so glad you have some medication now.

I completely understand what you are going through and how your house smells 'wrong' and how everything smells that didn't before.

Make sure you look after yourself, I found that ice cubes were easier to get some water in me rather than a drink and drinking tiny sips through a straw wasn't so daunting as taking a sip.

Stegolego · 30/07/2016 19:51

uber exactly. Worth writing to the practice. GP needs training on hyperemesis!

WellErrr · 30/07/2016 19:58

I would absolutely complain. That's shocking.

Really hope the meds work for you. What have you got?

MangoIsTheNewApple · 30/07/2016 20:18

I hope the meds work. But if you need something more, I found this CD that helped quite a bit, especially when trying to eat or at night. It was this one: www.morningwell.co.uk/

It's been properly trialled by the NHS and everything, so it's properly evidence based though it does seem a bit wacky.

Ubercorn · 30/07/2016 20:29

Cyclizine hydrochloride to see how I get on and they can change it if it doesn't work.

I'm glad to hear they have given you something. I had to see the g.p this week. I booked a week off work to send time with my children and spent most of it in bed ill. G.p gave me 10 days worth of pills. Was reluctant to give me them and thankfully no ketones in my pee. They have worked wonders for me haven't been sick for 3 days and can actually eat. He didn't want to give me anymore though.
