So . . New baby on route

Generally in hearing cot bumpers a no, so what exactly do most people do?

I will have a crib in with us and the cot in nursery,

What would you get for both?

Thanks

I bought an air wrap which is a breathable bumper and stops legs and arms sticking out of the cot. My DD had a crib for the first five months with a sleepyhead so that kept her more contained and stopped arms and legs getting between the crib bars.

I put a bumper around the front foot end of the crib. That way the limbs are contained and the head is kept away from it.

No bumpers, they aren't needed and can be dangerous.

Fitted sheets and grobags are the way forward.

IamChipmunk · 08/07/2016 05:18

Agree. Bumpers are dangerous especially when they can move. Fitted sheets and sleeping bag/gro bag in cot and we used a crib to start with along with blankets as Ds was too small for a bag.

I'm going to try gro snugs for #2 they look good and DS was always waking when he wriggled the blankets off! With thsee they can also have arms in or out.

Fitted sheet and gro bags. Cellular blankets until they weigh enough for grow bags. Check the temperature of your bedroom but at this time of year you properly only need one tog grow bags.

Gro bag, no bumper at all. Bumpers are there to make the cot look pretty - completely unnecessary and can be dangerous (same as baby duvets).

My ds was such a hot baby, in warm weather it would be either nappy and gro bag or nappy and sleep suit. As a toddler he still is too hot for pjs.

fitted sheets, gro-bags for DC1 and sleep-suits (padded for winter time) for DC2 who hated gro-bags.

Fitted sheets for mattress and grow bags, you can get grow snugs for newborns.

We started using our cot bumper at around 1yr when the SIDS risk is much lower and our little one developed a love of bashing her head on the side of the cot and waking herself up. The bumper helped reduce this a lot.

We also went for cot bar wrap things to avoid arms/legs being caught - they go round a couple of bars and can be spaced out - only used these on the lower part of the cot.

Was in crib/moses basket in our room till 6 months.

Also just used grobag from the right weight and stopped using blankets.

Here is a link to the Lullaby Trust's advice about bedding: www.lullabytrust.org.uk/mattresses-and-bedding
This is a really good website, and all info is evidence based - covers a wide range of safe sleeping info.
