Need help with Pregnancy vitamins!

Hello! I'm 9 weeks pregnant today and have been taking folic acid and not vitamin D - although I have been eating lots of cornflakes! I saw my midwife today and she said "You NEED to be taking vitamin D also" so I'm panicking now that I haven't been taking it and only folic acid.
Is everyone taking both of these supplements and is there any other pregnancy vitamins/multi vitamins anyone can recommend?
Thanks so much!

I don't understand the cornflakes thing but yes, you need to ideally be taking Vitamin D. Just buy some Boots / Superdrug etc own brand pregnancy-specific vitamins, or something like Pregnacare today and take them from now on. You won't need additional folic acid on top (unless there's a specific medical reason why). Congratulations!

Okay thanks very much! It's just that you get vitamin D from Cornflakes! I guess not enough though :)

With my first I just took folic acid and about half way through I was given some vitamins in a little bottle by a midwife during an antenatal appointment. Finished the bottle and didn't get anymore. It was the iron tablets that were horrible. Pregnancy was fine. Now with my second my partner has got me a big box of Pregnacare tablets/vitamins to take when all I wanted was folic acid. I mean you can take vitamins if you want, probably better, but don't worry about having not been taking them. Not everyone does, doubt they did years ago.

You can get folic acid and vitamin D (in the same pill) from Boots. It's a lot cheaper than Pregnacare or the other pregnancy multivitamins!

Buy the multi vitamins one for pregnancy. I took the tescos own. The guideline with all medication regardless of the makers. Which means you don't have to pay £9 or £12 for them. One a day with your main meal.

Vitamin d is very important because it helps both you (with bone repairs during pregnancy) and the unborn child (with bone formation during pregnancy).

If your going to continue breast feeding you should not stop taking the supplements. Balance diet is very important above all.

If you can't afford some of the vitamins ask your gp or midwife for a prescription. It's free prescription for pregnant women. I do think you might have to apply for the exemption card.

Great! Thanks so much for all the advice! I should have really asked the midwife yesterday but I was so flustered and there's so much to get your head around! :)

The guideline with all medication regardless of the makers. I was meant to say that they are all same amount.
